Toronto Break and Enter - Guns now in the Wrong Hands
Toronto Crime Stoppers is asking for the assistance of the public to identify a male who is wanted for a break & enter that took place on Wingarden Court, in the Neilson Road/ Finch Avenue East area of Toronto.
On Saturday, February 7th, 2009, in the early afternoon, the suspect walked in through the front door of the building, entered the victims apartment, and then walked out the back door.
What makes this particular Break & Enter so disturbing is that the suspect left the premise only after removing 10 handguns and 2 long rifles.
The suspect was captured on security footage and can be clearly seen as he walked calmly in through the front door, past a number of people in the lobby, entering into the elevator, and finally as he was leaving the building carrying the case of guns in plain view.
A possible description for the suspect is:
Male, black, approximately 510, possibly 20-25 years-old with what appears to be a husky build. He was last seen wearing dark baggy blue jeans, a white hoody with a design on the back of the hood.
Remember, this suspect is in possession of a large number of guns and is considered ARMED and DANGEROUS. If you see him, or know where he might be, DO NOT confront him, but call 911 immediately.
Should you have information that could help identify this suspect, or know the whereabouts of the guns, call 42 Division Major Crime Unit directly at 416-808-4206. If you wish to remain anonymous you can call Toronto Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS, send a tip online at www.222tips.com, or text message by sending TOR plus your message to CRIMES on your cell phone. Which ever method you choose it is anonymous and you may be eligible for a reward of up to $2000.00.
ATTENTION
Remember, if you write in the comment section on Youtube, they are there for the world to see. You are only anonymous when you contact Crime Stoppers directly via one of the three methods mentioned above.

Toronto Crime Stoppers Interested on thoughts of the community relating to school resource officers

More than a year after cops began patrolling the hallways, students at Toronto schools don’t feel any safer. The School Resource Officer (SRO) program began in 2008. Up to 30 police officers were assigned ...

thanks for advancing the discussion Randy. i note that this thread is introduced by a report suggesting that the SRO program doesn't make students feel any safer. and how the students feel matters. see the footnotes.

let's also note that SRO programs across north america have been on the increase since the 1960s. is this what a successful public health/policy corrective measure looks like?

the answer is no, no, no. if you set out to eradicate polio, you expect to see a decrease of incidence over the life of your program. if this does not occur, public health officials are bound by oath, science and professionalism to immediately halt such programs.... See More

SRO programs ostensibly exist to eradicate school physical safety issues. yet for 35+ years we have seen these programs expand in school after school, domino like.

this is not success my friends. this is failure.

administrators of these programs would have us judge their efficacy by examining crime statistics. but their overall efficacy is better measured by counting the number of schools with SRO programs from year to year. this number has been increasing constantly for 35+ years!!

we simply don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows here. the SRO program by itself cannot and does not address the root causes of school safety, does not make the students feel safer, and functions as a means of misdirecting parents, other stakeholders AND FUNDS in the quest to educate and protect children.

again i say that school violence and crime puts educators, students and other school employees at risk of developing health problems up to and including death.

once again, i argue that this is a public health issue taking the form of drug addiction, blunt force trauma, puncture wounds, gunshot wounds, depressive and behavioral disorders and death.

again i say that if we value our children, we must declare a public health emergency with each stabbing, each incident of bullying, each incident of teacher abuse. the full public must be mobilized and compelled to become part of the solution, to close ranks around the victim and the perpetrator alike.

and we must redouble our personal effort on addressing root causes, we must support policy makers and policies that address root causes, we must dedicate the time it takes to creating a safe environment for each other's children, and thereby our society at large.

policing our schools is too important a job to be left to the police alone!

law enforcement and school officials alike recognize that schools are the canaries in the societal coal mine. students who participated in the south african uprising? a 'lost' cohort. the palestinian intifada? another lost cohort. afghanistan, ireland, liberia, this is an extensive list.

the expanding SRO program is a tacit admission that schools in toronto are being added to this assemblage of ignominy. and by itself the SRO program cannot roll back this problem.

let's find another way.
