-- By Jon Isham, a professor of economics and environmental studies at Middlebury College.Just off the plane from Copenhagen, little sleep under my belt, I’m full of ideas for how to ratchet up the climate movement, big time. Over a late-night beer this week, Jessy Tolkan, coordinator of Energy ...

We went to a workshop with Jon last spring at Middlebury about brainstorming solutions. A good event, but we felt that when it ended, it just ended. The participants all went their separate ways, and there was no real conlusion. This is a HUGE problem in the environmental movement, that we all work too separately. We need to coalesce to effect a ... See Morereal change. The Vigils and 350 events were a step in the right direction. What's next? We need to mobilize in the swing states, and convince Obama and his crew to do a "State of the Climate" address as well as runs ads on national TV, as they do in the UK, informing the citizenry of the reality of AGW.

I agree Sue. I was thinking how there really IS so much climate activism.... but despite the tremendous work of 350, etc.. it still is not getting enough mainstream attention. It's the old, "if a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it........"

Also, we don't have the time & wherewithal to be battling amongst ourselves.... splintering our ability to get something moving.

I also think that our politicians are overly shifting the blame to their constiuents because they are too timid to truly take a leadership role. It's very difficult for us peons to fight against the millions spent by lobbyists spewing disinformation. In order to truly have a democracy, we need an educated, informed public, and this is not the case. The physics of anthropogenic climate disruption is too difficult for the average unscientic American.

And, while I'm on a roll, what I really don't understand is why the average Joe believes Glenn Beck or Limbaugh or Inhofe over the very educated likes of Dr. Hanasen, Dr. Chu, Dr. Holdren, Obama, etc.... See More

I would think that one would look at the credentials of the person saying something, and judge the information acoordingly. Americans can't even think well enough now to realize that these intelligent educated leaders understand the situation well and are speaking the truth.

We're Not Done Yet: Although a last minute deal did emerge from the Copenhagen climate talks, it lacks targets and timetables for reducing global warming pollution and it is certainly not the kind of "real deal" that global grassroots have been clamoring for. We will now look at the best roads fo...
