1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division Free computers make difference to deployed paratroopers, families
Dec 31, 2009
By Spc. Michael J. MacLeod

AL ASAD AIRBASE, Iraq (Army News Service, Dec. 31, 2009) -- Sharing photos of karate practice or birthday parties, and stories of a visit by the Tooth Fairy are just some of the things possible with a computer.

During ...this holiday season, Rebecca Tapia also used the computer she received from a nonprofit charity for its intended purpose: staying in touch with her deployed husband, Pfc. Joseph Tapia, a cannon-crew member with 3rd Battalion, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division (Advise and Assist Brigade).

Joseph is one of 75 paratroopers whose family received a new computer through Operation Homelink, just prior to the unit's deployment in August.

1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division Safety Stand-Down at Camp Ramadi
Story by Staff Sgt. Liesl Marelli

CAMP RAMADI, Iraq – Venturing throughout the greater Ramadi area and occasionally into remote areas of al Anbar province, they operate together frequently enough that a comfort level and personal bond has formed. The most important element is to understa...nd each other's role.

They are two teams, civilian and military: the Anbar Provincial Reconstruction Team and its security team, known in military parlance as a "personnel security detail." The PSD's mission: get the PRT safely to meetings so they can conduct business and return safely to Camp Ramadi.

1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division Aziz: Anbar Operations Command Effective Because of Strong Iraqi-U.S. Partnership
Story by Spc. Mike MacLeod

RAMADI, Iraq – Of 62 suspected al-Qaida, insurgents, kidnappers, murderers and bomb builders targeted by the Ramadi-based Anbar Operations Command, 20 have been captured by Anbar Iraqi security forces during fall... 2009.

The high level of success for the command-and-control center of all Anbar Iraqi security forces is the result of a high degree of intelligence sharing and partnership between Iraqis and Americans, according to the senior Iraqi military officer in Anbar.
