The event kicked of at 11:11 a.m. on Wednesday, 11 Nov (11/11) and featured several entertaining performances by Soldiers paying tribute to our Veterans.

4th Brigade, 1st Armored Division Indirect-fire attacks on our installations in Iraq are an ever-present danger. Whether it's a nearby improvised explosive device attack, or one by rocket or mortar, the need for a team of quick responders is a vital one. Each unit has designated Soldiers assigned to a team for this very purpose, and periodically train ...on the skills needed for that role. Familiarity with communications equipment operation, knowledge of combat life-saving procedures and drilling through possible attack scenarios where casualty recovery is a necessity comes with the job description.

Servicemembers participated in Contingency Operating Station Garryowen's Amarah Half Marathon Oct. 25.
Sponsored by the 4th Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment "Regulars," the run consisted of 13 laps on a mile- long gravel path that loops within the walls of COS Garryowen.
COL Newell and CSM Pandy gave special recognition ...to those who completed the run; among them CPT Dejesus of HHC 4-6 who came in at under 1 hour, 43 minutes.

CA also enables assistance to locals by either coordinating operations with non-govern...ment organizations or directly distributing aid and supplies.
Working with civilian experts such as doctors, lawyers, engineers, police, firemen, bankers, computer programmers, farmers and others, Highlander Soldiers provide expertise to host-nation governments and can also look at the need for critical projects such as roads, clinics, schools, power plants, and water treatment facilities.
CA provides cultural expertise, assesses the needs of the civilian populace, and if necessary, also handles civilians on the battlefield and refugee operations.
This week we look at the "assist" aspect of the Highlanders' advise and assist mission. Presented here are the first of more Friday Feature photo sets to come highlighting our civil affairs activities.
