Marian Do y'all have or are you in the process of creating a more modern way for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) community to utizlize this line. I was giving a presentation today for group of professionals who work with students with disabilities. The staff member works directly with the DHH community, and who is a member... herself, said the TTY technology is outdated. So I'm just wondering if you know of another resources. if so, can you please point them out to me. Thanks in advance for your help!!

The DHH Coordinator suggested the following: Videophone numbers and emails. Some companies also offer instant messaging or "instant chat options." The DHH said the TTY technology is becoming obsolete. She said "TDD/TTY technology does not provide the helper to see how the caller is emotionally present. Videophones or email is the most preferred ... See Moreform of communication for the Deaf Community."

Hope this helps you gives you some alternative ideas... I really hope we can continue to have this dialogue. This would be a great service for the DHH community. Thanks for considering this matter. Please let me know if I can be of any other help.

Kristynn

Kristynn Thank you for the chat on Thursday night. Although I have a great support system, I had nowhere else to turn at the time. I am really glad there is somewhere to turn when everywhere else is useless. Especially somewhere that is not involved in my situation. Thank you again. The number is on speed dial on my phone.
