Kara Recently had to give some bad news to a patient and felt unprepared in breaking the news with the most compassion. So I found this AAFP article which was very helpful.

We should all be prepared to break bad news in the most sensitive way.

Really great article, thanks for sharing Kara!
I liked the suggestion to have family members or other supportive persons present... but how do you ensure/invite such members to be present without foreshadowing the bad news?

Student Members of AAPA The Society of Student Run Free Clinics will be holding their annual conference January 30-31 in Jacksonville, FL. This is a great opportunity for student to grow their experience via professional development and networking with other health care professionals. The cost of the conference is only $75 and PA students are... encouraged to contact SSRFC to bring posters and other promotional materials on the PA profession.

For more information on the SAAAPA Web site, go to http://www.aapa.org/student-academy/current-students.

Kara Hi, student members! This month as final exams approach and some are graduating and taking the PANCE, I'm curious to know what motivates you to study hour after hour. What do you do for your "study breaks?"
Let's share our ideas!

Study break every two hours helps keep my focus up usually I'll grab a snack, go for a coffee run, 15 min session on Facebook or the PA forum, check email, or listen to some music. What keeps me studying hour after hour is remembering that this is what I've always wanted to do and realizing that I took a seat someone else would have been grateful to fulfill. I also like to remain cognizant of the fact that what I'm studying is important to the life, health, and well being of future patients.

I cannot explain it... No matter the hour of the day, or the time away from home, I know I still love what I am learning. I think that is what makes us perfect for this career...
