Media Matters did a devestating analysis of the propaganda videos used to attack ACORN that they released a few days after the Harshbarger Report. They show how the videos were manipulated and edited to make a case that can't be made without taking substantial liberties. That's why the full unedited tapes haven't been ...released and why the videographers refused to be interviewed by Harshbarger. You can read it here: http://mediamatters.org/research/2009120 80007

Major victory for ACORN and the Constitution!
On Friday, ACORN won a preliminary injunction agasint the Defund ACORN Act, in which the judge ruled the Act unconsitutional and barred its enforcement.

Today the Independent Reviewer, Scott Harshbarger, the former MA Attorney General, released his report on ACORN. This was comissioned in the wake of the propaganda videos that sparked such controvery in September. The report notes, "there is no evidence that action, illegal or otherwise, was taken by any ACORN employee... on behalf of the videographers".
"The report is part vindication, part constructive criticism and 100% roadmap to the future," ACORN CEO Bertha Lewis said. You can read all about it here: http://www.acorn.org/index.php?id=12439& tx_ttnews[tt_news]=22632&tx_ttnews[backP id]=12387&cHash=22450ecc36

Great article from TX ACORN treasurer Bonnie Mathias:
I do not fit
the stereotype of an ACORN member. I am white, middle class, own my
home and have a 17-year career with AT&T. But like too many these days, the current economic downturn reached my doorstep.
In September 2008, my husband lost his job when ...the company for which
he had worked for nearly a decade went under. While he quickly found similar work, our household income dropped significantly. Our bills did
not. By January, foreclosure was a real possibility,
until a newspaper article mentioned my affiliation with ACORN and my
impending foreclosure.
Within a week, my mortgage servicer referred my case to "executive escalation." I pray the company will give all their
homeowners the attention I received. Without ACORN, I fear we would
have lost our home.

ACORN Trolls beware: We are going to post (in some cases re-post) the 4 installments of Rachel Maddow's series: "The truth about the lies about ACORN". You can leave bitter comments, but that can't stop the truth. Here's the first one: What's really behind the attacks on ACORN? On Sept. 25, Rachel Maddow was joined by The Na...tion correspondent and author, JeremyScahill, to look at government contractors who are guilty of far worse than ACORN and yet have suffered none of the persecution in the media or Congress.

ACORN If any of the people leaving noxious comments have any self-respect they will watch this video and find out who is REALLY ripping off the American taxpayer. Right now, Rachel Maddow is on fire. She spends 10 minute going over the real crimes of murder, fraud, and, yes, sex slave rings, run by US military contractors, s...ome of whom have killed US service members and comparing that to the non-existant situations from the ACORN videos. This is the kind of thing that should really raise people's outrage. But doesn't. So, why not? What is this ACORN witch-hunt really about?

This is why the haters leave those noxious comments and why everyone
else supports our work:
"The group has improved the lives of millions
of working families and strengthened America's democracy through its
voter registration
efforts. ACORN helped lift low-waged poor out of poverty by building
the "living wage" and minimum... wage movement, perhaps the most
successful poor people's campaign during the past two decades.
Coordinated and inspired by ACORN's Living Wage Resource Center, what
began as a series of local efforts in the late 1990s, led to a national
boost in the minimum wage in 2007, an increase signed by George Bush."

The right goes after the left's most effective groups. Because ACORN does not rely on government funds the organization will survive the orchestrated attacks against it. But if it's to restore its strength, it needs progressive support.
