American Theatre magazine 40 years ago today Sesame Street made its debut. How have Big Bird and co. affected your life and your work in theatre?

Source: www.pri.org
Cookie Monster now eats vegetables, but the core values of "Sesame Street" aren't much different from the show's first broadcast.

I used a Salvation Army Kermit as the base for my version of a Brick (Paul Newman) puppet for a scene from "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof" in my directorial debut. :) Thanks, Kermie!

"Ariadne auf Naxos" (Richard Strauss) at the Kennedy Center in DC. The scenery was interesting and the lighting effects at the end for the "Feuerwerks" was excellent. I know, it's opera, not theater, but it has a lot of the same elements. On Halloween went to Sleuth in Vienna, VA. Fortunately I had never seen it before and they succeeded in pranking me.

American Theatre magazine Don't miss Randy Gener's in-depth profile of director Ivo van Hove in this month's issue. And this just in: Van Hove's next classic revival at NYTW will be "The Little Foxes," the 1939 drama by Lillian Hellman, in September 2010.

Source: tcg.org
Ivo van Hove's iconoclastic bad-boy status in the U.S. says far more about us—our intractable conservatism, our veneration of naturalism, our exoticizing of foreign fare, and our degraded critical discourse—than about this brainy-yet-feisty director's revisionist style. ...

He is labeled a subversive, and is presumed dead after a shooting, but he has actually escaped. When he returns in the sequel "El Filibusterismo," Ibarra becomes Simoun, the titular filibustero, seeking revenge. He sports jewels, a beard and blue-tinted glasses...

Had a nightmare that I was Liza Minnelli's understudy and had to go on for her at the last miunte. Every time I walked onto the stage I got boo'd and had tomatoes thrown at me. I would have probably thrown tomatoes at me too though.
