Update on former RESCUE dog Blue: Hi Jennifer,
Boy is he an active one! Godiva and Gizmo are having a blast. The three of them are none stop playing, it's so cute. We have not renamed him yet, he responds really well to Blue and it fits him.We will give it a few more days and see if we find a name we like more or just keep his name.

Photo and adoption notes for RESCUE cat Harlow:
When Joe and his 11 year daughter, Savanah came to meet Harlow, she played a little hard to get at first, and Savanah was a little reserved too, having met a kitty with another organization that had hissed at her and didn't want to be held. Once we got Da-Bird (a feath...er wand toy, that all cats seem to go crazy for) out, Harlow couldn't wait to chase it and Savanah was thrilled she wanted to play.Harlow went to her new home last night, and I am sure her and Savanah are going to be the best of friends for a long time to come.Read More

Update on former RESCUE dog Sammy now Wall-E from his mom:
Jennifer - so glad you sent out the link to Channel 3 newscast, as my sweet new adopted boy is on it. That would be Sammy the Lhasa mix, who is now named Wall-E and is doing great. I am so attached to him already, as is his playmate, Ranger. They both sleep w...ith me on the bed. He is so good with my 2 yr. old grandson whom I babysit every day. I couldn't have asked for a better fit and it is beyond me how anyone could neglect him and give him up. Never again. He is safe now. Bless you and all the fosters for your work. SandyRead More

Update on Frasier from his loving mom:
Hi Jenn,
Thanks for all of the useful resources you sent! I will look into them all! I think Dr. Moffit might be the vet my auntie B recommended to me; so I'll definitely check her out!
I've attached the photos-finally! This a.m. I finally got around to getting them uploaded and my c...amera battery was dead-so sorry for the delay!
Frasier is a good boy; he just needs time-I took him on Saturday to play in my uncle's great big back yard-we played ball for 30min. straight-he absolutely LOVED it! So this will become a weekend routine, for sure!
I am going to make an appt. for the vet this Saturday in Mesa.
Thanks for everything as always! :o)

Update on Barcalounger, now Hans from his mom:
Jennifer:
I forwarded the video to my Facebook profile as I have several friends from Arizona on there, I asked them to forward the message on to others as well. Very sad, wish I help more. The kill rate at AHS is a pathetic high number. I still have a Russian Blue cat I adopted from RESCUE in April 2001....I live in Oregon now.

Photo/update on former RESCUE dog Ben from his loving family: Hello. My name is Jorge S and I wanted to email you to thank you guys for everything you do. Almost 6 years ago we adopted Ben, a beautiful Schnauzer, from your organization. About 4 years ago we left Arizona and moved back home to California, where he/we... could be closer to family and enjoy the nice, cool weather year around. Before we left for California, we found out that he was suffering from Melanoma. Thankfully we had surgery done to remove what we thought was all of the cancer. Unfortunately, all of the cancer hadn’t been removed and it apparently spread rather slowly through him. It wasn’t until about 3 months ago when we began to notice that Ben wasn’t feeling very well. We noticed tumors beginning to grow, his appetite starting to diminish and he could hardly walk on his back left leg. These past couple of months had been very hard on Ben and we knew that we were on borrowed time with him. This afternoon, we sadly had to put our little boy to sleep. Although this letter sounds very sad, Ben had a wonderful life with us. Not only did he move back home with us to California, but he was also around for the birth of our two children (one in 2005 and the other just last year), both of which loved him dearly!! Ben was such a great dog with small children…he had the patience of a saint. Not once did he snap, growl or bark at the babies when they were a little tough rough with him; he would just get up and jump up onto our bed where they couldn’t reach him….he was one smart fellow!!! He definitely added a TON of joy and happiness to our lives and he will be missed A LOT!!! The reason for this letter to you two part: the first to help us add some closure to our blessed life with him. The second is to thank you for allowing us the opportunity to bring him into our lives!!! Without your organization, we never would have had such a wonderful dog to spend these past years with. I again would like to thank you and I hope that you continue to add some joy into people’s lives by placing these wonderful animals in their homes. Have a wonderful day. JorgeRead More

RESCUE cat Izabella was adopted today. Here are notes from her adoption:
Izabella definitely fits the in the category of those oh so sweet, lovable, affectionate orange tabbies. Rescued in June, she came down with a horrible kitty cold, but we knew once the volunteers nursed her back to health that it wasn't going to ...be long before she was adopted. Izzy does well with other cats, she loves people, loves having her head scratched, and is a BIG snuggler! What else could a cat lover want?
A fellow RESCUE volunteer Connie had been waiting for the right time for her to adopt a RESCUE kitty. When the time came Connie decided she would foster Izabella and her Feline Care Center roommate, Paisley with the intent to adopt. Today was the lucky day for both girls and for Connie. She is adopting two very special kitties and is going to have lots of furry love in her home. Since Izzy & Paisley will be part of the extended RESCUE family we will be getting lots of updates and pictures!Read More

Long time RESCUE cat Paisley was adopted today!!! Here are notes from her adoption: Paisley was returned in June of 2007. She was 8 years old at the time, and quite simply her family just didn't want her anymore. I remember her return and remember being so angry because it was as if they were returning a piece of fur...niture that they just no longer wanted. Paisley, however took all that in stride and didn't let it deter her one bit from being the sweet, loving, purring cat we have all grown to know and love. I just looked back over her back page comments and from day one; everyone has said the same thing; "Paisley is one lovable kitty and seeks the attention on her humans. She immediately starts talking to you when you walk in the room and follows you where you go hoping you will stop and pet her. She likes having belly rubs and will lay down in front of you belly rub letting you know its okay to rub her belly."
Shortly before going to foster with Connie a couple of weeks ago, I had moved Paisley into a room with Izabella. Izzy is young, but very mellow and easy going. I thought she might be good company for Paisley during the day when volunteers weren't there, and Izzy was looking for some company too. They did well together, sharing a tall condo, Izzy taking the top shelf and Paisley happily taking the hidey house. Connie started volunteering with RESCUE in 2006. At the time she had her son and his cat living with her, and Nick's cat Abby needed to be a one an only. She has had several cats in the last 3 years that have been her "favorites", but until Abby was no longer living with her; she knew she couldn't bring another cat home. Once Nick was able to take Abby, Connie emailed me saying she was ready to foster and hoped to adopt. She was hoping to foster two, and had quite a list. When I saw Paisley & Izabella's name on the list I couldn't be happier, but didn't want to persuade her one way or the other and told her she would need to talk to Jenn about fostering. A few days later, she let me know she would taking Paisley & Izabella home to foster and if all went well, adopt. It's two weeks later, the girls have settled right in, sleeping on the bed at night with mom since the first night and Connie is ready to make them a part of her family. Paisley, sweet girl, we are going to miss your squeaky little meows, your loud purring, and rolling over for belly rubs, but we couldn't be happier that you finally have the family you deserve.Read More

The amazing Blue was adopted today!! We couldn't be happier for our special boy and his new family!!! Here are the photos and notes from his adoption appointment:
While lots of applications came in for Blue, we think he scored the perfect family. Chris and Rebecca and their teen daughters are true dog lovers- their be...autiful boxers Gizmo and are Godiva well-trained, well-fed, well-exercised, and well-loved. All three dogs instantly became a pack, trotting around the backyard, play bowing to each other while the drool flew! After several minutes of getting-to-know-you time we went inside to see that Chris and Rebecca had already purchased a dog bed (and written a check to Rescue) before even meeting Blue! The whole family had lots of questions about Blue, and were eager to share the details of what they feed and how they've trained Gizmo and Godiva. Their younger daughter likes to sleep with the dogs, so I think she'll now have her bed full, as we know Blue is a snuggler! The Miserendino's walk their dogs twice a day, hike often, camp at least once a month, and include their dogs in all aspects of their lives. For a dog whom RESCUE recovered from the brink of fatal illness, life couldn't be better for our dear Blue now.Read More

Video and update on former RESCUE dog Gretchen from her new dad - I've attached a short video of Pumpkin just after her first bath on saturday. I'm frustrated because the full clip isn't as pixelated but you can still get the warm fuzzies by watching. Pumpkin has had some quality training in her past and is a delight t...o have. I know Chris and Eleanor worked with her but she displays surprising behavior on occasion.
We bathed her outside with a 5 gallon bucket of warm water and outside temp of 70 deg. She stood perfectly still the whole time and endured the 10 minute wait on the medicine shampoo. Then we dried her with towels and a hair dryer. She wouldn't tolerate the hair dryer on her head and ears, but I can't blame her really. We think that she knows about grooming from experience in her past. At least, more than the AZRESCUE shaving can account for. Despite whatever abuse she suffered before, she was and is a gorgeous dog. The movie clip is right after all the drying and she's getting her rewards for being so good.
At mealtime, she goes and lays on her pad while we eat. Not hanging around begging or right underfoot, Again, we think it's been trained in her. She hasn't ever asked to go out or made any mistakes in the house. We try to anticipate outdoor breaks, of course, but even in the morning she is the last one up and in no hurry to relieve herself.
She very much wants to know the daily routine and after nap time yesterday, I headed to the kitchen to start dinner with Alice and she almost demanded to be fed. Although she has dry food in her bowl all day, she doesn't touch it. We mix some canned food for added flavor at dinner and she anticipates the combination enthusiastically. Alice thinks it's great to feed her first.
When walking on her leash, she heels almost perfectly, staying along side or slightly behind. The occasional interesting smell can cause her to pause, but she will respond to the leash and continue on. I like to let her linger when possible, otherwise I'd be letting a good nose go to waste.
Alice says she loves to have a fully trained dog and can't imagine investing all the time to get a dog up to this level. We have truly been blessed with this lovely dog.
Also, for those who haven't seen it, here is a link to a TV spot including Eleanor and Gretchen (as she was known then) on abandoned and abused animals in Phoenix. You can't help but look into Gretchen's pleading eyes. It also features Jennifer Berry, who so graciously let us adopt Gretchen on the spur of the moment. Again, many thanks Jennifer.
