Career Tip of the Month
October 2009
October's tip.
Determine your personal engagement
In this month’s career tip, we will look at how to determine and enhance our own personal engagement in your job. Engagement is the state of emotional and intellectual commitment that an individual has to a group. As an engaged employee, you will feel positive about your organization and be committed to contributing to business success.

To determine your personal engagement, we recommend that you:

- Create a list of the aspects of your career that are most important to you

- Rate your current satisfaction with these areas in your current role, noting any comments that help explain your rankings and ratings

- Identify any discrepancies in your list. For example, placing high importance on challenging assignments but having low satisfaction with this aspect

To enhance your engagement, determine what steps you can take to raise your satisfaction of areas where you place the most importance. Following this example, if you are not feeling challenged enough in your role talk to your supervisor about taking on additional responsibilities.
