Adams State Adventure Programs (ASAP) will be hosting a 3-day WFA course through the Wilderness Medicine Training Center (WMTC) February 13-15, 2010.
"Wilderness Medicine is the branch of medicine that addresses prevention, assessment, and treatment of accidents and illness in the back country where rapid access to the ...national 911 system is NOT an option. Courses in wilderness medicine focus on major and minor traumatic injuries, environmental problems, and expedition medicine. Skills taught exceed those required by traditional ambulance and rescue workers and meet the special needs of trip leaders, guides, and remote Search & Rescue teams."
WMTC's Wilderness First Aid workshops are designed to introduce participants to the concepts of medical care in a wilderness setting.
The course focuses on Basic Life Support skills, minor trauma and selected environmental topics, the spine assessment and ruling out process, allergic & toxic reactions. The majority of course time is spent in hands-on skills practice and simulations; lecture in the Standard courses is limited to basic anatomy and physiology.
This WFA course may also be used to recertify WAFA, WFR, and WEMT certifications.
Cost: $100 for ASC students and faculty, $200 non ASC student and faculty.
Food and lodging: Not provided
For more information visit the WMTC website: www.wildmedcenter.com, or call the ASAP Rental Shop for questions or to sign up: 719-587-7813
