African Threads: Textiles in Support of Women in Africa
I'm passionate about working directly with stitchery groups in South Africa to create economic empowerment for women artisans. Purchasing their charming fabric art helps to put desperately needed funds into their hands

thanks for writing Mary - I've found that if we can give women a meaningful income for their work they are empowered to educate their families. We can all do a little bit to help women world wide!

Lisa Shepard Stewart Very cool... My work is mostly concentrated on textiles from West Africa so it's nice to "come up for air" and see other approaches. The creativity of the Continent is boundless! ---- lisa - who can't wait to leave for Ghana again in just 15 days and 5 hours ; )

Kathleen and Patricia - If you look at my slide show below, there is a photo of me giving bags of embroidery floss to the women of the Mapula embroidery group. The gift of raw material to make saleable items is positive, BUT also, it's creative material for them to add beauty to their lives.
Ask your quilters groups to collect embroidery threads ... Read Morefor you to take to Africa.

If I can help anyone track down women's craft items from women's empowerment groups, let me know. I have dolls, embroideries and cards that can be purchased in quantity by Church groups and Grandmother Groups
