John McCarty Dr. Mohler,
I had never heard of the "Manhattan Declaration" until I saw Chuck Colson talking about it Sunday evening on the Mike Huckabee show. Since then I have read it and saw that you had signed it. Could you explain your reasoning behind why you could sign it in all good conscience? I am the pastor of our church... and some are going to ask me about this movement and I'd like to hear all the pros and cons or why I should or shouldn't sign it.

What is it that an atheist has to be thankful for? In the immediate, a person without Christ can be thankful for many things, assuming that the blessings of this life are only ‘good luck.’ But in the end, no one is ‘lucky’ enough to completely escape pain and death. There ...

Amen. I was thinking about how God established Passover traditions so that the children of Israel would remember what God had done. This year, preparing for Christmas, I was purely materialistic in my heart--rushing into buying gifts... How sad it is for millions of kids and adults to think Christmas is about getting THINGS--and not being told ... See Moreabout God's gift. So with each gift this year, I want to think and tell about Jesus. It is such a great prop--like communion--and yet we skip over the meaning so often and miss some teachable moments.

Why should Thanksgiving look any different? An atheist can be thankful and enjoy time with their family. And a Christian can enjoy a nice meal, a day off of work, and some football.

Is faithfulness in marriage a good thing, or has monogamy become overrated? The Los Angles Times has recently reported on the state of monogamy in marriage, claiming that while monogamy is a viable option for couples, human beings are not naturally made for resolute faithfulness in relationships...

Anthropological observations don't lead me to the same conclusion that the author arrived at. The relatively long gestation period of humans suggests to me that we were made for long term commitments to our mates. The long maturation process also suggests long term or lifetime pairing for the raising of children. The emotions associated with ... See Moremarriages (jealousy, for example) cannot be dismissed, either. These are part of our "natural" makeup and they would lead an observer to expect deep, lasting bonds to be natural. Perhaps my faith influences my view of nature (as it should), but I don't think that the claims made in the article are "settled science". But many strange things pass for "science" these days.

The Albert Mohler Program MON (11/23) - Monogamy: Doesn't it make sense? Hasn't God made relationships to be monogamous? The New York Times has reported that with the ease of DNA testing, many men are find that they're not the natural fathers of their children. Startling stats that argue for monogamy. Post your thoughts here or call 1.877.893.8255 (TALK).

Jim Hearn Thank you for the kind words that you have occasionally spoken in your radio program about the Lutheran Church, Missouri synod. LCMS is either demonized or ignored by the mainstream media. Your kind words make me proud to be a supporter of Focus on the Family.

Remember, the statist Left desperately wants the institutions of marriage and the family unit destroyed. To quote Jean Jacques Rousseau: "Each citizen would then be completely independent of his fellow men, and absolutely dependent on the state."

Does anyone have any recent data about the perspectives of children of divorce. What are the beliefs of the majority about marriage. Is it just "a piece of paper" or are the children redoubling their efforts not to be like their parents.

I suspect that we'll be like the underground churches in many dictatorships someday soon. The PC forces keep gaining strength to the point where they could soon confiscate our children, homes, and churches in the name of the public good.

I am so encouraged to hear your thoughts on the therapeutic! I am currently a MSW (Master of Social Work) student and this moral evasion language is all that I hear in class. Just this week we practiced the intervention of Labeling. The client names their unhealthy behavior in order to separate the behavior from the person. I continue to learn how secular minds focus on treating symptoms when they do not have the moral bases to treat the actual problems.

and...Did you know that social workers are successful mitigation specialists for death penalty cases? This is the ultimate moral evasion. Don't be fooled- the individual social worker's agenda is to obstruct the death penalty, not to plead the client's innocence.

Last night, I heard Os Guinness quote a famous Atheist say that he had to read 2 or 3 Novels a week because he couldn't stand to come face-to-face with reality. We need to put our books down, raise our fists to the air and say, "Enough!" In our prayer closet, we need to drop to our knees and plead, "God, be merciful to me a sinner." 'All that is necessary for good to fail and evil to prevail is for good men [and women] to do nothing.' [Churchill?]

How do you witness to someone who doesn't believe the Bible is the authoriive word of God. They may believe there is a God but they do not believe there is any one system of faith, as they would describe it, that explains who God is?
