How do you tell the Christmas story? What type of language do you use? Many Christians find the Christmas story most clearly explained through the gospel of Luke. But where does the story begin? On today’s program, Dr. Mohler notes that the Christmas story begins far before the incarnation two thousand years ago. While the particulars are found in Bethlehem, the story begins long before the manger scene. The bible is very clear that the Christmas story begins at the very beginning of time as God’s primary plan for redeeming a fallen world. That’s why getting the Christmas story right is so incredibly important. If we get it wrong, we’re not just missing Christmas; we can easily miss the gospel, too.

I like John Piper's perspective on when this story of grace began: "Consider 2 Timothy 1:9 - '[God] saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of His own purpose and grace, which He gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began.' Saving grace was given to us before the ages began. That is, it was given to us ... See Morebefore there was any human sin to save us from. Therefore, grace was planned before human sin was there to need it. This means that God's plan to save us through grace was not a response to human decisions to sin. Saving grace was the plan that made sin necessary. God did not find sin in the world and then make a plan to remedy it. He had the plan before the ages, and that plan was for the glory of sin-conquering grace through the death of Jesus Christ." - from: Spectacular Sins, pp.58-59.
