Sam Van Dyke

Sam Van Dyke A question for Wednesday. I would love know your side regarding this: There are Christian's who look to leaders and counselors for their spiritual stability. Then there are Christians that are mostly self reliant, taking little council or instruction from leaders. Where is the balance between the two?

Paul Thomas

Paul Thomas Dr. Mohler, I have been thinking a lot about communion lately. In many churches, when we take the cup of remembrance, we actually are passing around many small cups. When I read the New Testament, it would seem like Christ and the New Testament church used one cup and passed it around. The meal is given to us as a symb...ol, something tangible to remember the death of Christ. It would seem like we distort the picture by using many little cups instead of one cup. What are your thoughts about one cup per congregation, or one cup per person?

Enjoying the show Dr. Mohler. I heard J. Vernon McGee comment that there could have been 100-200 magi. His thinking was that to cause the kind of commotion they did while traveling there could have been that many magi.

Justin n Becca Bruce I am too tired to opine here for long, but I don't really think I disagree with anything that you wrote. Every thought you expressed I embrace. The sad part is, that once the ball starts rolling, it is hard to stop it. But stop it we will, in eternity. All the trappings of these religious practices will be no more some day. It ... See Moreis just very easy for us to forego Santa, he's an easy thing for us to deny. If I had the courage of my convictions it would be easy to forego the whole mass of Christ rituals too. Thank you for the wonderful words Bruces. And the kind way in which you wrote. So refreshing.

why do we tell our kids that santa is real? Why do we choose to give glory to santa instead of God. Why not teach our children that because of the providence of God they got what they got. Something is really wrong when we shift toward a man and not keeping our eyes on Jesus. Our kids knows that santa is not real just liike they know spiderman isn'... See Moret real. What a silly thing to lie to our kids about. Keep it Christ gospel focused and you won't have these "hard"issuses because they won't be hard inlight of the gospel!

I like John Piper's perspective on when this story of grace began: "Consider 2 Timothy 1:9 - '[God] saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of His own purpose and grace, which He gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began.' Saving grace was given to us before the ages began. That is, it was given to us ... See Morebefore there was any human sin to save us from. Therefore, grace was planned before human sin was there to need it. This means that God's plan to save us through grace was not a response to human decisions to sin. Saving grace was the plan that made sin necessary. God did not find sin in the world and then make a plan to remedy it. He had the plan before the ages, and that plan was for the glory of sin-conquering grace through the death of Jesus Christ." - from: Spectacular Sins, pp.58-59.

I agree with Dr. Mohler on this. I believe that the lack of teaching of sin, of hell, and of God (especially His Holiness) have been part of the loss of shame. Without the Church in America taking a strong stand against sin, and associating shame with it (could be done through church discipline), the country will continue to sink into a greater ... The sad, but too true, reality is that the vast majority of the body of Christ is living with a very high treshhold of tolerating moral failure. Indeed, it has dumbed down its own standard so low, and elevated the concept of "legalism" so high, that many are confused about what is reprovable sin. We seem to fall for the argument that sin is ... See Moresomehow cultural. We should expect nothing else from those that are in, and love, the world. You can look in almost any area - music, movies, speech, and the great majority of the saints of God are indistinguishable from a dyed-in-the-wool devoted wordling. We go to meet on Sunday more as a way of declaring our membership in the club. We live in a world of grey.

I'm assuming your talking about unbelievers. Well since they [unbelievers] do not have the Holy Spirit to convict them, which is one of God's attributes, they have no shame. On the other hand, repetition, sears the conscious; To the point of no thought of wrong doing.
