American Whitewater The AW Journal is comprised of content submitted for free by its fans and members. Anyone care to guess how many contributors have lent their words to AW over the years?

We'd love to see it! There's great rivers all over the world that need saving. We also hear a lot of people asking if there's any sort of 'Canadian Whitewater' as well. The necessity is there, all a movement needs is a core group of motivated individuals to get the ball rolling.

You could always just add Canada into AW and rename it North American Whitewater!

American Whitewater Kayakers Take Part in Day of Climate Action--make your voice heard at http://www.outdooralliance.net/climate

On October 24th, 2009, 200 paddlesports enthusiasts got together on the Willamette River in Portland to participate in the 350.org International Day of Climate Action. Our way of showing support: form a giant floating 350.

American Whitewater Rep Mike Quigley [IL-5] and Rep Jesse Jackson, Jr. [IL-2] have signed on as the only two out-of-state representatives to co-sponsor legislation to protect the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River and Pratt River as wild and
scenic rivers in Washington State (H.R.1769). Anyone from the Chicago area should give a big shout of thanks out to these guys for co-sponsoring H.R. 1769 and standing up to protect some great whitewater.

American Whitewater What say ye, oh members of American Whitewater, of stickers that have your year of support on them? (i.e join in 2010 and get an AW sticker that indicates you were a member in 2010)

I have several of the current membership stickers laying around. I only used one of the small logos on my helmet. You might get better results with something commemorating consecutive years of membership...like a 5 year, 10 year, etc. sticker, t-shirt, or something.

Andrew Fox

Andrew Fox I think AW should start a "sticker campaign" Every whitewater kayak should have an AW sticker on it. Stickers are only available by joining AW, of course. I think this would encourage people to join. It would become the right thing to do and everyone would know if you were a cheap ass and not a member of AW.

Hey Andrew, thanks for the suggestion! For the most part this already occurs, just not explicitly. We usually try to give out stickers to members only. Likewise, we send stickers with each new member and renewal. I'd wager that a majority of the AW stickers you see places are from members.

We are looking into updating the stickers to include years on them in the future. That way you can proudly display your multi-year support of AW, and chide your friends for not renewing ;)
