Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp: April 30 - May 16, 2010

Wonder and intrigue abound in this favorite rags-to-riches story about Aladdin, a poor street urchin who unearths a mysterious lamp with an enchanting secret. With the help of a clever genie, Aladdin learns to rely on himself instead of magic. Don’t miss this unforgettable magic carpet ride!

The Friends of Contemporary Craft present a “Conversation” with glass artist Beth Lipman. Spotlighted during the exhibition Hot Color Cool Glass, her clear glass creations are striking and complex and evoke images of still-life Dutch master works from the 17th century. Artwork by Beth Lipman is currently on display ...in the Winthrop Rockefeller Gallery here at the Arkansas Arts Center. Tickets are $15 for FOCC members and $20 for non-members. A light dinner will be served after the lecture. Reservations are required, and should be made by no later than November 6. For more information and to make reservations, please contact Laura Shafer at 501-396-0311 or by email at lshafer@arkarts.com.

Arkansas Arts Center 's newest acquisition is here! As part of our Building the Collection series, visit the AAC and see an oil on paper by Gustave Courbet. Courbet was an innovator - in the subjects he painted, his handling of the paint medium, the way he marketed his work, and the way he lived his life. He was one of the most important figures in 19th century art. This piece is on view beginning today through January 17, 2010.

Don't miss Art on Tap this Friday, October 16 from 6 - 9 p.m.! Enjoy a variety of beers including an Egyptian beer brewed just for Art on Tap! Mike Byrum of Fermentables Homebrew & Wine Makers Supply in North Little Rock tells us that "Egyptians actually baked loaves of bread, crumbled them and then made beer. While we... didn’t go to that extreme, we did use common ingredients of the time including millet, barley and wheat as the primary grains". Come taste this unique beer that was brewed like the Egyptians!
