Asian Art Museum
We are the largest museum in the Western world devoted exclusively to Asian art. With 17,000 objects and 6,000 years of history, we're a pretty nifty place. And we have a blog!

Asian Art Museum educators Stephanie and Deb represented at the SFUSD School Board this evening. Thank you Board President Maufas for making time on a busy agenda for us, and to all the commissioners for a warm reception. We were reminded of our visibility challenges, for example, did you know...all San Francisco Unifi...ed School students get free admission to the museum by showing their school ID? Please spread the word to your San Francisco public school peeps!Read More

Not sure if any of our Fbook fans were complicit in the fact that we broke 4,000 followers. But if you were, THANKS!

Asian Art Museum Staff walkthrough of Emerald Cities this morning led by our terrific storytelling curator Forrest McGill. Even though many of the paintings have serious themes, they're also imbued with lots of playfulness. Here's a challenge for anyone who plans on seeing Emerald Cities. HOW MANY RABBITS CAN YOU FIND IN THE EXHIBITION?

Asian Art Museum Did you know that Bangalore is a sister city to SF? We'll have a Celebration of India on November 21 honoring this relationship, as well as the diverse South Asian communities in the Bay Area. http://bit.ly/48ZV6F

That's alot of sistahs... Bet they do Kris Kringles and kvetch about who's getting to host the holiday bash this year! JK. Seriously, I can't remember when you last headlined an Indian themed main exhibition, so this will be a welcome change of pace. Bhutan & Japan (haven't seen Thailand/Burma yet) were spectacular this year, and Shanghai will probably be just as wonderful. Hope you feature Bharatnatyam dance on the 21st, or let me offer it you as a suggestion!

According to the
Mandalay Marionettes Troupe (of Burma) website, this fellow is an "Old veteran
Puppet Master, formerly a puppeteer and manager of Famous Shwe Bo U Tin Mg troupe; won the prize at the National Performing Art Competition in 1995; participated as a Master Puppeteer in the Myanmar Cul...ture Group to Thailand. Now, he is training the Puppeteers for the future." How
lucky are we to have seen him perform, especially since it was difficult to
arrange for the troupe to visit from Burma!

Thanks Jeanelle and Susan for the thumbs up.

@비누야 ダニエル You were able to see him perform, right?

@Rory Yeah, it really is a shame. But that just means more for the people who did make it out to see the troupe!

Yeah I talked with him really briefly a half hour before everybody came back for the performance. I totally had no idea who he was.
