Steven Frisina A question: (Referencing the 24th solar cycle peak) I'm curious if this solar maximum does indeed hit Earth with a dead on trajectory with the estimated force of "a hundred million hydrogen bombs", is that enough to knock out the earth's protective magnetosphere, subjecting us to the deadly radiation of sun?

          Hi Steven

Not sure if there ever was a '24th solar cycle peak' - a lot of misinformation on the Internet. The Sun has regular cycles of active and inactive periods (11 years) and this has been going on since birth. The quoted" hydrogen bombs..." statement is a reporter's observation and may be over exaggerated BUT it will be violent - No danger to humans, just satellites, power switches, GPS etc. GREAT Aurorae too.

Thanks for the info. The above referenced 'peak' was my lack of a better phrasing for it, but the solar flares that has been hypothesized to occur between 2012 and 2013, but you picked up on it. So what your saying is that our magentosphere... should be strong enough to withstand just about any Coronal Mass Ejection that sun can dish out huh? Man our world is pretty amazing.
Many thanks for you taking the time to answer my question Dave! I'll be back with more I'm sure!
          :)
