Leslie van Ginkel for those starting, a little piece of advice that I have learned the hard way :-)
I keep a magnet with note paper on the fridge and as I am cooking, I write the carbs as I go so I dont forget anything. I realize how many 'hidden' carbs there are, things I didnt think to add to my carb count initially. It helps me keep b...etter track.
I cook on Sunday and get my breakfast 'quiche' ready for work as well as cooking 2 main dishes that I have for lunch and dinner during the week. This way I plan my carbs and know when I can have a coffee (sweetner) or Amber Lyn chocolate. I also keep a big batch of SF Jell-o made in the fridge

Hi Mary Jo, I like to tell people to really hang in there for about 4 days. You might find the carb/sugar cravings really bad. About day 5 you suddenly will be free of the addiction. Important thing is nooooo cheating. If you really stick to your guns you will be amazed at how quickly your body will change for the better

You might have found something to which you are intolerant. A lot of people are intolerant to wheat and don't even know it. Atkins is a great way to slowly bring things back into your diet, and see how you feel. A stomach ache is not good. I hope you feel better.

just from personal expierence, I have a coffee every morning and diet soda throughout the day, and I havent had a problem. maybe it depends on the person. I heard it can slow the weight loss though.

Jackie Williamson I have allowed about 10-12 pounds to creep back on me....I work out about six days a week but I have had some issues in my life that have caused me to dealing with some depression. Something I have actually battled with for a while, but I have let it get ahold of me and so alot of my time at home is very low activity......I sleep and lay around when I really shouldn't (but find it a way to cope!) So I really believe that has contributed to some extra weight on me. And that doesn't help me feel better!! What should I do to kick it back into gear for me? I feel like I need to go into induction and jolt my system..is this the right way to go?

If it were me I would go back on induction. Whenever I've put on weight it's been because I let sugar and carbs take over again. Induction is a good way to "detox" again. I feel better and get control of my eating habits again.

Nope, sorry -- if you read the Acceptable Foods List and guidelines, no wheat products are allowed. That's because Induction is a time of detox and the bulk of your net carbs should be coming from veggies. You can start adding the wraps in OWL (Phase 2).

Jen Nelson Success!! As I wrote on Thanksgiving, I blew it, ate what I usually do in my carbing days and went through 2 days of carb hangover on Friday and Saturday. Got back on track Friday and am back in ketosis now and even back to losing weight (down 12.4 pounds in 3 weeks). It's the first time ever I've"cheated" and got back... on track. I won't do this again on Christmas, but it was a good experience because I know how committed I am now. I never have fallen off and gotten right backon the horse before!

True success lies in whether you get back on track after a lapse...good for you, Jen! You know you're making progress when you wake up with that high-carb "ugh" feeling and get back on Atkins to feel better as well as lose weight. Your 12.4-pound weight loss in 3 weeks is excellent...now it's time to keep that ketosis engine burning and lose some more!

THanks, I guess I'm not in deep ketosis yet, but I lost weight so it's all good. Now I'm dealing with not wanting to eat. I ate breakfast and wasn't hungry at all. I have to force myself to eat. I think once I get back to working (tomorrow), things will fall back into place.

I just went all through the friendlys menu online, and decided upon what I was getting. then i wanted to check myself, so i looked through the nutritional info, and what I choose (monterey jack chicken with broccoli) was less then EVERYTHING else on the menu. even the sirloin! *...patsback* I may even have a scoop of SF vanilla with almonds and whipped cream. If I did, that would bring my whole meal to 14 carbs. (I doubt I will end up with the ice cream, cause a) its freezing in south florida today, and b) I wont have room for it when Im done with my meal! I think I am going to ask them to put cheddar and bacon on my broccolli and bring a side or sour cream too!

This is great information for others -- post away! And keep patting yourself on the back. Glad you to hear you're so comfortable navigating your way through restaurant menus. PS when I find a restaurant that offers nutritional info on their food and/or features low-carb choices I always thank the owner or manager and tell them I appreciate it. One of my favorite Mexican restaurants offers low-carb tortillas and has a low-carb section of the menu that lists carb counts. Love it!

Dont worry, your doing great. Regarding the sticks, as you said your drinking twice the water that your supposed to, that dilutes ketones in your body and hence the ketostix result. Some of those things are happening to me as well, so i guess we are on the same rocky boat. :). You are doing great, keep up, and dont let sticks results distract you.
