Metro Augusta Parent Magazine Millie Schumacher at The Family Y has a great tradition that she shared with me today. "Santa" brings her daughter just three presents each year, in representation of the gifts given to Jesus from the three wise men. She said that the tradition not only refocuses attention away from consumerism and back onto the reason... for Christmas, but it also forces a welcome limit on gift buying. After the three "Santa" gifts, all other gifts are appropriately marked as coming from mom, dad, etc. And, although she didn't say it, I think that also reminds children - who might otherwise thank Santa - to remember and appreciate their parents' generosity.
