Barnstable County Human Rights Commission The Barnstable County Human Rights Commission, in conjunction with the members of the Immigrant Issues Work Group, is sponsoring “Supporting Our Immigrant Communities: An Evening of Celebration and Solidarity,” on Saturday, July 12, 2008. The HRC and IIWG are calling on residents and visitors of all towns in Barnstable... County to gather at designated locations in the communities on the evening of July 12th to demonstrate their support our immigrant communities. Those attending are encouraged to bring flags that reflect their ancestry, signs of support, and a picnic supper and join their neighbors in celebrating the county’s increasingly rich cultural diversity.

The HRC and IIWG are looking for event locations in all 15 towns of Barnstable County where people can gather together to publicly demonstrate their individual and collective support of our immigrant communities and to help create a welcoming environment for the Cape’s immigrant populations, including its year-round population, the temporary foreign workforce, and summer visitors. The groups are also looking for interested individuals in each town who are willing to volunteer to assist with site location and event organization. Those interested in volunteering should contact Commissioner Ernest Hadley at 508.349.2660, or EcHadley@capecod.net
