Being Latino

Here's a constant gripe that I have with culture specific topics dealing with hate against a group. We're so focused at hate against Latinos that you're taking your eyes off the bigger picture. Al Gore said that we need global governance to control carbon emissions. All the pro-Latino complaining or praising will not matter. Latino issues are international, and yet we focus on micro issues. It is possible to look at issues in the human sense and still be proud of who we are and take-on issues that focus on us. But I think that we also need to stand back and look at global agendas that affect everybody, which include Latinos. I know this is a Latino page, but where better to talk to Latinos about issues that will affect us eventually, even if not immediately.

There is a lot of anti-immigrant and anti-Hispanic sentiment out there. Most of it is based on stereotypes and misinformation. The best thing that we can do is fight by educating the public. However, I have to admit that things have gotten A LOT better just since I was a kid and maybe we should put more focus on how far we've come.

This was a horrible act of violence that should not be committed on any human being for any reason. With that said, I have a problem with labeling things "hate crimes".
A crime is a crime regardless of the motive. Setting heavier criminal penalties to crimes committed against certain "specially protected minority" is wrong because this crime would be just as bad if it was committed against a person who is not considered to be in a "protected minority".

I agree with you but the labeling of such crimes do entail a longer sentence. I know the logic does not fit. A crime is a crime in all its heinous glory but lawmakers find it fit to label the such. May G-d give that family solace in this time.

This is great. They should also get it together and help families on the brink of going into foreclosure instead of making it difficult for them. (my bad.. had to throw that in there).
