Music of Remembrance's fall concert combines evocative Holocaust-era music with works by two brilliant composers of today.
Czech composer Pavel Haas was part of the remarkable creative resistance at Terezín, and we perform his String Quartet No. 1, a masterpiece of counterpoint. You'll hear works by two Hungarian compos...ers who perished at Nazi hands: Sándor Vándor's impressionistic Air for cello and piano, and László Weiner's sparkling Duo for violin and viola. You'll be captivated by the Yiddish art songs of the Ukrainian composer Lazar Weiner, a pioneer of that form, sung by Seattle Opera Young Artist Megan Hart. Contemporary Israeli-born composer Ofer Ben-Amots' soulful Cantillations blends Judaic themes and cantorial styles with contemporary effects. Paul Schoenfield's powerful Sparks of Glory inspires listeners with amazing stories of spiritual courage.

Over 35 years since first "Sittin' In" together, Kenny Loggins and Jimmy Messina are again side-by-side in Loggins' living room. The two men are in the early stages of putting together a new nationwide tour that picks up where 2005's hugely successful "Sittin' In Again" reunion tour left off.
All this shared activity m...arks the unexpected and unlikely return of the most successful duo of the early Seventies – a group whose most enduring songs were so well crafted that they have never really gone away. At the same time, Loggins & Messina find themselves rebuilding the personal connection that was lost long ago. For both men the new tour represents what Jimmy Messina calls "a great and meaningful opportunity."

The purpose of the Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions is the following: first, to discover exceptional young talent; second, to provide a venue for young opera singers from all over the country to be heard by a representative of the Metropolitan Opera; and third, to assist those with the greatest potential i...n their development.
Over 100 singers on the Metropolitan Opera roster during any given season have auditioned for MONC. While there are many routes to the stage of The Met, for North American singers these MONC Auditions create an introduction to the company that may have otherwise eluded them. Many of the current opera divas and stars such as Renée Fleming, Ben Heppner, Samuel Ramey, Deborah Voigt and Simon O'Neill, to name a few, are all past MONC Audition participants or winners.
District winners are sent to the Regional Finals, to be held in February of 2010.
