Nancy DeKraker

Nancy DeKraker I did the MS 150 2009 in Minnesota this past June because my relatives are from MN and they invited me to participate. I am interested in doing the Mid- Mich or the West Mi ride in 2010. Can someone give me an idea of how each course is? Flat? Windy? ALong the lakeshore? etc. Thanks!!

Both are the best supported rides I've ever seen. West is prettier with the most options for milage. Wind varies on both depending on the weather. West has possible cross winds and Mid head wind. Mid is flat but with more traffic. West has a few hills, one steep but only 1/3 mile long. West goes along lake Michigan for a portion each day. I've not done Minnesota, but have been to many other MS rides.

Thanks for the response! Is a course map of the 2009 ride available online somewhere? The Minnesota ride was pretty awesome; it was my first ride. A variety of terrain: flat, hilly, rail-trail, country road, farmland, towns. I would do it again if my work schedule would allow it. 3200 people rode, the most bikes I have ever seen in one place!!! And excellent support too.

Michael I am doing the 50 mile Fenton ride. I would like advice about how to prepare. I have never done a group ride, or a 50 mile ride. If you could answer some questions, please e-mail me at MRogell@MicroGell.com. Thank you

With limited time, I would concentrate on "saddle time ", rather than miles. Make sure to include hills in your training, rather than riding only on the flat roads.

On the day of the event, break the ride down into the segments between rest stops, and concentrate on getting to the next one. At each of these stops you need to make sure to eat & drink.

Follow the advice above and you will have a great ride!

Thank you. Any advice about drinking water vrs. sports drinks (Gatoraid, etc)? How about energy bars? What is available at the rest stops? I did 30 miles today, averaging 14.5 mph. I feel great. Can't wait for the ride.
