BlackBerry Cool It's interesting to see what carriers are preloading on their devices. The Storm2 has a couple cool apps but most of it is pretty lame. Honestly, why would anyone buy their music from Verizon? http://www.blackberrycool.com/2009/10/28/apps-preloaded-on-the-verizon-blackberry-storm2-and-alternatives/

The Storm2 is available from Verizon today, so lets take a look at what applications are on your device.

BlackBerry Cool Speaking of themes, the latest OS 5.0.0.328 from Verizon broke my BlackBerry Storm themes! This is a bug that RIM may have missed on the Storm2 as well. Testing as I write this. http://www.blackberrycool.com/2009/10/27/blackberry-os-5-themes-bug-on-9530-and-maybe-storm-2/

I have loaded the official OS 5.0.0.328 on my BlackBerry Storm 9530 and my themes are broken. There has been some buzz about this in the forums and I've tested the theory using an Elecite theme on my Verizon 9530.

BlackBerry Cool BlackBerry App World is launching themes on November 9th, the first day of the BlackBerry Developers Conference. Sweet! http://www.blackberrycool.com/2009/10/21/blackberry-app-world-to-offer-themes-november-9th/

Source: www.blackberrycool.com
We're getting tips that RIM is launching themes on BlackBerry App World November 9th. It's still very early to tell whether RIM will hold to this date, but we do know that they're aiming for it. A number of events could lead to a delay but all we can do is wait and see.

All BlackBerry devices that are made go through a naming process that is, to say the least, confusing. The device name will often change as a BlackBerry goes from engineering to internal testing, then to carrier testing and finally through marketing and out to the consumer. ...

The new BlackBerry Storm 2 9550 by Verizon is shaping up to be the BlackBerry touchscreen device we've all been waiting for. I remember back when Mike Lazaridis was taking criticism for the original Storm and his response was simply sorry it was the number 3 selling smartphone in North America. ...

BlackBerry Cool BlackBerry user poll: Have you seen any apps on the iPhone/iPod that you would like on your BlackBerry? (Augmented Reality anyone?)

The developer community around the iPhone is fairly different from that of the BlackBerry developer community in that iPhone developers have OpenGL at their disposal, allowing them to create visually rich applications, as well as as the marketplace and demographics are slightly different. ...

BlackBerry Cool Are you a BlackBerry user with a baby? There's a really interesting free app going around called BabyGo. The app opens up an entirely new market in the BlackBerry world: babies. I bet we'll see more apps being developed for unexpected markets like this in the coming months.

What do you guys think about the UberTwitter ads? If you're not familiar with the situation, UberTwitter released their Beta 4 with ads and then turned them off after an uproar from users. On the one hand, developers have to eat and free software costs money to develop. On the other, ads can be invasive and Twitter is ...a very personal space. http://www.blackberrycool.com/2009/08/ubertwitter-turns-off-ads-amidst-twitteRead More

Source: www.blackberrycool.com
When UberTwitter released their Beta 4, the news that it came with ads was somewhat buried in the announcements. While the ad wasn't terribly annoying, users were more upset that they felt a little deceived. Also, as one user pointed out, it is still in Beta.

@Percy - Very true. This is a lesson to all app developers that if you're going to have an ad-supported version, make sure to offer the alternative at the same time.
