The response of Councillor Garry Breen above is very worrying as he appears to be positioning himself for a watering down of Bus Gate into another exercise in nominalism. This has been my real worry all along as he and his ilk are already positioning for a return to chaos. He gives the game away on double thinks when he writes: "At the end of the ... See Moreday,it will be about balancing the concerns of all the interests in the city and not pursing one to the detriment of others". Its clear that his main interests lie with big business to the determent of Bus users and cyclists. Let's keep our real friends on our side to defeat Breen in January.

I always figured this was going to happen and that's why we cyclists need all the help we can get from all the Councellors including those who voted for the suspension. Like the rejected death bed request for renunciation of the devil with all his works and pomps_ "This is no time to be making enemies"!!

Bus Gate is suspended on the same evening as Ireland are cheated out of their place in South Africa. Coincidence?

Don't be surprised Dermot is the man who when Lord Mayor by his casting vote saved this city from years of unaccountable Management by a Government Appointed Administrator when the Council could not agree to strike a rate. And that took a lot of courage at the time when he was under enormous pressure from all sides including some who are now saving the Country from ruin by supporting NAMA with 54 Billion 'GreenBacks'.

Thanks for that comment Stephen. The best way to advance the cause of citizens is through an enhanced Local Government system and a broad coalition of progressive and environmental forces. That is why i regret this temporary division of opinion on the temporary suspension of Busgate. But Busgate in full will be back on January 15th and hopefully we can all move on together from there.

Dermot - you admit that the BusGate was not the problem yet you imply you had to compromise because it was. By suspending the BusGate you are helping perpetuate an impression that public transport and cycling are bad for business while car dependancy is necessary.

Have we got the Jesuits running the CG Bus Gate??

That is my real worry and the reason why my priority is to get the Bus Gate Open again in January as the campaign to have it closed was based on falsehood in relation to trade effects.
