Ethan Straffin "If people let the government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls who live under tyranny." -- Thomas Jefferson, marijuana grower

CADFY's site suggests: "The 1999 IOM report said that smoked marijuana should generally not be recommended for medical use; we don’t 'smoke' medicine ... Let’s do the proper research first.
Double-blind, clinical trials of the components in marijuana in a non-smoked form."
Agreed. I eagerly await CADFY's support for fur...ther study of vaporized marijuana in particular (as advocated by the IOM in that same 1999 report). Unfortunately, as with no other drug, the privilege of conducting such studies within the U.S. is granted or denied by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, whose name says it all with respect to putting the cart before the horse.

Californians for Drug Free Youth Despite a push by groups to legalize marijuana, about half of Californians want the drug to remain illegal, a new Capitol Weekly/Probolsky Research poll finds. The survey found 52 percent of respondents wanted to keep marijuana illegal, while 38 percent of those surveyed support legalization, and the remainder declined to state.

Faith-based Community Urges Public Safety Committee to Reject Legal Marijuana in California
Calling attempt to legalize marijuana for tax revenues “blood money” – religious leaders, community activists and former drug addicts hold press conference at Capitol
What:
On Wednesday, October 28 at 10 a.m. the California Stat...e Assembly Public Safety Committee will hold a hearing on a bill to legalize marijuana sales and use in California. A growing grassroots coalition of medical, religious and community coalition leaders say the public health and societal costs will far outweigh increases in tax revenue; black-market sales and gang violence will still exist, and the implication of a reduction in the prison population is a red herring.
Why:
Hundreds of members of the California religious community are outraged at an attempt by members of the California Legislature to legalize marijuana. Deeply concerned about the drug infestations that plague their neighborhoods, communities and schools, a nondenominational, multi-faith movement is gathering Wednesday at the State Capitol to voice their concerns during a morning press conference; at the
10:00 a.m. legislative hearing and by a noon march around the Capitol.
When & Where:
October 28, 2009
9:00 a.m. Press Conference

Bishop Ron Allen, Founder and President, International Faith Based Coalition (IFBC); and Pastor, Greater Solomon Temple Community Church, Sacramento. A recovered drug addict, Bishop Allen leads a nondenominational, international coalition with a quest of drug prevention and education.
John Redman, Executive Director, Californians for Drug Free Youth (CADFY); Chair, Alliance of Border Coalitions; and Founder and Co-Chair, Border Demand Reduction Council. At CADFY, Mr. Redman oversees 13 state and bi-national drug-prevention initiatives.
