I wanted to post something on the wall to let everyone know that I am doing a fundraiser for Childhood Cancer. I am making a t shirt with all the kids' names on it who have survived cancer, are battling cancer, or who have become our angels in heaven. please message me with your child's name if you would like for it to... be included on the shirt. I plan to sell them through a website, most likely cafepress.com. message me with any questions or concerns.Read More

Dear CANCER101 Friends -

I am a proud supporter of clinical trials.

I have participated in two trials and I am quite certain that I am around today because of them. In fact, I am on a trial now that has allowed me to be cancer-free for almost a year - a long time for ovarian cancer patients. Clinical trials offer new op...tions for people with cancer when the standard treatments’ expected outcome is not promising. Participating in a clinical trial will help millions more. Only 3% of America participates in clinical trials. We need to help improve this number! Please join me and support clinical trials by joining the Coalition of Cancer Cooperative’s member page. Just click on this link!

Just heard about Cancer101 from George Kansas' e-mail newsletter. I'll be a 3-yr ovarian cancer survivor come Oct. 5...It's been a long struggle but I look at life differently now, never taking anything for granted. In fact, in May, after Cindy's Retreat (a cancer retreat for women sponsored by the CR Wood Cancer Ctr... at Glens Falls Hospital, on Lake George, NY) I got a "celebrate life" tattoo with two cancer dancers, with ribbon torsos, one in teal for ovarian and one in amazon pink(!) for breast cancer...now I devote alot of time to spreading awareness and am involved in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, both as a walker and as crew...very meaninful weekends where we get to support others with cancer...Read More

Linda Hendricks

Linda Hendricks Hello all from North Carolina. I am newly diagnosed and have had a bilateral mastectomy - all within the last month. DCIS is what I have and now one lymph node shows very, very small cancer cells also. Back to Surgeon this week and after that - I have absolutely no idea of what is next. Anyone else here with the same diagnosis? Linda In NC

From one survivor to another - Make sure you get two or three opinions from an oncologists who:
1. specialize in breast cancer and

2. Sits on a tumor board. A tumor board is a group of medical oncology doctors who meet once a week to review their new patient cases. Your oncologist will present your case to the group and the doctors provide their... Read More feedback on how they would treat your cancer. With a tumor board you are getting opinions from various doctors who specialize in radiology, oncology and surgery. One doctor may have read a recent study the others had not. Or another just returned from a medical conference with new information to share with the group about a new drug or clinical trial. With a tumor board you are more likely to get the best treatment advice possible.
