Speaker Chris Donovan on the revelations that Governor M. Jodi Rell improperly used $200,000 of taxpayer money to hold focus groups for her own political gain.

Connecticut House Democrats House Speaker Christopher G. Donovan said, “We’ve met the challenge from the governor on reaching a compromise. Democrats showed leadership in passing a budget that makes difficult choices and begins to solve our budget crisis in a balanced manner with a sensible combination of cuts, borrowing, federal stimulus funding... and new revenue. This is a budget that puts Connecticut on the road to economic recovery.”

The vote Monday afternoon took less than an hour, however, all of the Republican members of the House and one Democrat voted against it.

Legislators vowed to fight Gov. Jodi Rell's proposed cut to the Dial-a-Ride program, as well as other vital services for seniors.
Dial-a-Ride is a service intended to reduce the isolation of seniors and the disabled by bringing them to doctor's appointments, grocery stores, and other neccessary locations. Gov. Rell has ...proposed that the state provide no funding for the program.

The closure will severely hurt people suffering from mental illness and addictions and th...eir communities. Rell claims that the services can be provided in the public sector yet at the same time she has proposed slashing state funding to private providers.

Caregivers, parents, and lawmakers gathered Tuesday outside the Department of Developmental Services in East Hartford to protest the state’s plan to privatize 17 group homes and close six others.

House Speaker Christopher G. Donovan joined US Representatives Rosa DeLauro, Joe Courtney and Chris Murphy, as well as workers from the East Hartford repair center, to discuss the fate the two Pratt & Whitney operations in Connecticut.
Speaker Donovan called on Pratt & Whitney to immediately sit down with the Governor a...nd legislative leaders to determine what the reason for this proposed shutdown is and see if there is anything the State can do to prevent the loss of thousands of jobs.
Speaker Donovan also called on Governor Rell to utilize federal stimulus dollars to spur growth in high technology jobs in the state.
