California Labor Federation

California Labor Federation Did you miss last night's U.S. Senate debate between Sen. Barbara Boxer and Carly Fiorina? Check out highlights from the debate now up on our blog (spoiler alert -- Boxer swept the floor with Fiorina).

There was always a massive contradiction - or one might say, a dishonest hypocrisy of stunning proportions - at the heart of Carly Fiorina's US Senate campaign. She touts herself as someone who can create jobs, but her record as the failed and fired CEO of Hewlett-Packard shows her to be one of the ...

California Labor Federation There's a lot riding on this election and California's unions are rising to the challenge. 61 more days!

Labor's campaign in California has been an ambitious mix of trying to persuade swing voters while at the same time trying to mobilize those Democrats who don't often vote in nonpresidential elections.

California Labor Federation This Newsweek report spells it out: If Republicans were in charge, we'd have a bigger deficit and fewer jobs. Tax cuts for the wealthy don't create jobs. Never have, never will.

If Republicans were in charge from January 2009 onward—and if they were now given carte blanche to enact the proposals they say they want to—the projected 2010–2020 deficits would be larger than under Obama, and fewer people would probably be employed.

There are people that sit around at US Chamber of Commerce retreats, private trade group meetings ( their lawyers, trade agents and private councils of foreign relations) that figure out ways to outsource labor, minimize liability under the... plant closure acts (W.A.R.N.), avoid tariffs on finished goods of component assemblies and then lobby to cut their taxes, tariffs and unemployment insurance liabilities, and were that not enough, then make it harder for people to keep their homes and file bankruptcy when all falls apart. Adding insult to injury, they lobby our legislature to pass tax laws that give the American companies tax breaks when they export jobs and allow product dumping. Labor needs to recognize the enemy and it is us--the uninformed.See More

California Labor Federation Contrary to her bogus rhetoric, Carly Fiorina is no friend to California Latinos -- and we're making sure everyone knows it. Today, we premiered our new video, "Carly No Es Mi Amiga," right outside of her campaign headquarters in Sacramento. Click here to learn more and watch the video.

Much like her CEO pal Meg “Wall Street” Whitman, GOP Senate candidate “Corporate” Carly Fiorina has been pretending to be a friend to Latinos as of late, in a cynical ploy to garner votes. But the more Latinos learn about the real Carly, the less they like. The fact is, Fiorina’s positions on the i...

California Labor Federation Big thanks to everyone who came out to the great rally in Sacramento yesterday! In the words of Susan B. Anthony, "Organize, agitate, educate, must be our war cry!"

More than 1,500 people, including many women in early 20th century fashion, marched and rallied in Sacramento yesterday to mark the 90th anniversary of the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution that gave women the right to vote. The rally, sponsored by the California Nurses Association (CNA), als...

California Labor Federation Great news for international workers' rights -- Yesterday, the California Assembly took a stand for the thousands of Colombian trade unionists who have been senselessly murdered by passing a resolution urging Congress to oppose Bush's free trade agreement with Colombia.

Over the last 20 years, at least 2,754 union workers in Colombia have been murdered, simply for exercising their right to organize, bargain collectively and, if necessary, strike. In 2009, 48 Colombian union workers were killed, and 29 have already been murdered this year. Today, California state ...

Carly says that she wants to run California like a CEO and that she has a wealth of experience creating jobs, but she neglects to tell us that a huge number of the jobs she “created” were in other countries, not here in the U.S. The truth is, she slashed 30,000 U.S. jobs and shipped them overseas.

California Labor Federation Did you know the average retired public sector worker receives less than $2,200 a month in benefits? In today's Ventura County Star, reporter Timm Herdt exposes the truth and the lies behind the attack on our hard-earned pensions.

Here’s a little piece of information that will probably surprise you if all you know about public employee pensions is what you’ve picked up from recent political rhetoric: Among the 492,000 retired government workers receiving checks from the state’s Public Employees’ Retirement System, the average...

California Labor Federation Check out this feature story from the front page of today's San Francisco Chronicle, outlining our winning plan to reach out to more than two million pro-worker voters using the same sophisticated micro-targeting technology that boosted the Obama campaign to victory.

Labor unions backing Jerry Brown for governor are looking for new ways of drawing supporters to counter the bottomless checkbook wielded by his Republican rival, Meg Whitman. They're using cutting-edge technology, known...

      • Gus Ayer Great news. We have local campaigns in Orange County out ringing doorbells of independent voters right now who would love to join with labor in this effort. We know there are 900,000 Democratic, independent, and minor party voters in OC who are ready to hear from candidates who support the middle class against corporate greed. How do we join forces?
