I read these books with my 14 y/o daughter and it was one of the best choices I ever made. I knew what she was reading and could answer any questions and have honest discussions about a lot of what if"s? My daughter realized on her own that Bella is not someone to emulate, that it can't be healthy to be that obsessed with a boy, but it was also ... Read Moregood to see that it reinforced the things I had taught her. I also liked how it portrayed "family" as not only biological, how the werewolves were protectors of their family-strong male models who in the end allowed a female to become a protector as well. Not HP at all in my mind, and one can only make that judgement once they've read both series at age appropiate times.

I've read the books and saw the first movie, will see the second with my girls this weekend. It's a great series for discussion with girls, it's not overly sexual or violent, which can't be said for most things today. Let them prove it - and own up to indiscretions of the past 40 years. Much safer and surer to give directly to individual charities that can be verified than to a very questionably supervised slush fund.
