Beautiful trip to Rabbit Key, Glenn and I made it out there so quickly with the tide, storms rolled in over night, the thunder and lightning was amazing. Glad it was not on top of us! Next morning we awoke to strong gusts and black/blue skies.. Had to head back to pick up the Bad Dog, with another storm approaching, I made a quick pace and was ...... 詳全文back in 2 hours (8 miles, some against the current) passed a family of 4 from CO that had left 2 hours before I did! Great Trip and great views- can't wait to get back out there soon.. Really need a dog sitter!

Bill, you should have been there! Still beautiful, the camping beach is a bit smaller each year it seems.. Tons of birds on shore, dolphins galore hunting at night and making all kinds of racket. Had black bean soup from home for dinner that night, used sweet potatoes, red peppers, lots of Penzis chili spice, cumin, onions, garlic, lime, and of ...... 詳全文course plenty of beans and a little ham - yum! Froze it the night before and it had just thawed out by dinner time. Hope this is our first spot out when you are Cheri are down here in Jan!!

His sugarcane plantation is in the Heart of Everglades National Park, so paddling the Gulf for approx 20 miles then up the mouth of the Chatham River (Watsons property was often referred to as Chatham Bend) Have been past the river a few times, but never went up to his propery specifically so really excited to see this place. When the park took over, his home was knocked down. If you are interested, there is a great book called Killing Mr. Watson- really well done.

should add that he was killed many years before the Everglades became a National Park (and World Biosphere among many other designations)

Next Trip is Dec 5,6,7th - we have two guys from Winettka coming down and one from FL plus me of course, should be awesome- Sign up and get in on the fun!

thats cool, lovers key is about 10 minutes from my house, I love it! But the Glades is where my heart is... Last trip we had the whole place to ourselves - really spectacular!

Great! I would suggest purchasing your airline ticket asap for that time period, arriving at least one day in advance in case of weather delays, lost luggage or whatever... I would not delay in purchasing these, they will continue to go up in price then fill up (no seats left) IF you are flexible, you can come a few days in advnce and stay ...... 詳全文longer to see some of the other great things that FL has to offer like the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, the Shark Valley (no sharks) and some of the many seminole and native museums
