Children's Memorial Hospital neurosurgeon David G. McClone, MD, joined dignitaries, families and supporters November 10, 2009 at a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Camp Independence at YMCA Camp Duncan in Ingleside, Illinois.
Camp Independence is the longtime dream of Dr. McLone who has operated on more than 1,500 children w...ith spina bifida. These children who rarely survived until adulthood are now thriving and living full lives but need to learn independent living skills. The Camp will teach these skills, foster social relationships and do so in a beautiful, lakeside facility surrounded by woods.

On October 16, a custom designed, child-friendly fire truck cab was lifted by crane to the 12th floor of Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. The fire truck cab is one of many features within the new facility that encourage education and exploration.
