the chinese regime needs to mend its way of ruling and controlling people. now it arrests anyone who opens his mouth to tell about the rotton nature of ccp.
prehaps chinese people have awakened and realised the true nature of ccp, therefore they are voluntarily seeking to QUIT CCP. till date 64 million chinese across the globe have withdrawn from ... See Moreccp. the withdrawl is symbolic as people use alias name to quit, but this also shows, how much faith people have lost in ccp.
long live china and god bless its countrymen. ccp is not worthy to rule the wonderful land of china, with traditions and culture having histroy of 5000yrs old.

Canada Deplores China's Sentencing of Liu Xiaobo

(No. 396 - December 25, 2009 – 11:55 p.m. EST)

The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement regarding the 11-year prison sentence given to Chinese intellectual and dissident Liu Xiaobo by the Beijing Municipal No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court:... See More

“Canada deplores the sentencing of Liu Xiaobo, whom we believe is being punished for exercising his right to peaceful and non-violent freedom of expression.

“Canada is concerned by Mr. Liu’s lengthy detention, which began a year ago. We are also deeply concerned by the circumstances of his trial, which was not open, and to which family members and foreign observers—including Canadian Embassy representatives—were denied access.

“As we have done since Mr. Liu’s detention began, Canada once again urges China to release him without condition.

“The Government of Canada is fully committed to promoting freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law worldwide.”

I agree that the United States and Europe are often arrogant and hypocritical in its dealings with China, but the author's representation of the Tibet situation does not touch on the fact that the Chinese government denies freedom of expression and/or freedom of religious practice in Tibet and continues with a policy that is eradicating the Tibetan... See More cultural heritage. While the author is correct that most Americans do not have a clue as to what the average Chinese person thinks (they don't all feel oppressed), I would respond that the author, and most Han Chinese, most likely have no idea what the average Tibetan thinks about their domestic political situation, nor does s/he probably care, except to assert his or her nationalist fervor and certitude that Tibet and China will always be one. Second, refering to the part where the author equates the advice that Chinese should be engaging in civil dialoogue(writing letters to the editor, etc.) as trying to get Westerners to like them, well, that is just absurd. Critical dialogue is the foundation of international civil society. If you want foreigners to understand you China, than you must engage in open and frank dialogue. Its that simple. Finally, the United States is regularly criticized around the world, regardless of what it does. Get used to criticsm China. It comes with the territory of being a "great power."
