The Civic Education Project (CEP) is a Model Service-Learning Program that differentiates itself by providing the following: * Academic rigor and integrity. CEP programs, housed within Northwestern University's Center for Talent Development and affiliated with Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth, are highly compet...itive and facilitated by experienced and well-trained program staff. * Eye-opening service experiences. Whether at a health clinic, soup kitchen or school, CEP arranges all service experiences in partnership with reputable local community organizations. * Exposure to amazing people. Program participants converse with everyone from peers to policymakers, the homeless and the hungry, and everyone benefits from the interactions. * Fun. CEP participants enjoy serving, learning, reflecting, relaxing and exploring exciting cities around the country! In many ways, CEP is defined by its students as much as its staff. Together, we are a diverse group of individuals eager to learn and then lead in making a difference in the lives of others and having a positive impact on society.Read More

I taught a summer course for CEP only once but it was a defining experience for me as an educator. Wherever I go, I will make it a point to integrate principles of service and civic education, from both a local and a global perspective, in the education projects I direct. I will always be a fan of Northwestern Universi...ty and this tremendous initiative.

Martha Barlow Although I have not had any students who participated in the summer program, I have had several students attend Civic Week - and for one, especially, it did "change her life." She has gone on to implement amazing service projects here in Wisconsin and in Argentina when she was an AFS student there.

Rob Sargis Even though I was already a graduate student when I served as a counselor for CEP, this program opened my eyes and fundamentally changed how I look at the world. Thank you, CEP.
