Chris Bowden

Chris Bowden Ok, I have to ask DEVO fans this question...the band even. 2 great shows in Toronto...thanks guys!!! After a month of tell people I was going to see DEVO and getting 99% of their remarks be based around "Whip It". I find it frustrating that no one knows of their true gems...Uncontrollable Urge being the first one that ...comes to mind...

the comment/question is ...Whip It must have been profitable for the band, but do you wish that the majority of people did not know them for whip it at all? We would still love them, the stupid comments about whip it would end though...

just a thought.

I agree. Whip It in my "never be humble" opinion made them mainstream, but there are so many other songs that I'd rather listen to or better yet are genius!!!

Nope, I wouldn't wish that at all. I've never gotten a stupid comment though, mostly "oh, that weird 'whip it' band?" to which I reply "exactly".

Paul Cangelosi

Paul Cangelosi Yes, Freedom Of Choice live totally kicked ass but when you drive SIX HOURS and saved up for the show cause you can barely make the rent...to only play 60 minutes and charge SEVENTY DOLLARS...that's not good at all. They have a big enough catalog to play at least 90 minutes. When I left the venue there were alot of p...eople expressing the same disappointment in the lack of songs played. Yes, what they did play was EXCELLENT...but for what they charged they should have played longer. I saw the Jesus Lizard on Monday night there and they played over 90 minutes and only charged $35. And David Yow was throwing himself to the crowd. Basically not worth the 6 hour drive and scrimping to save for it. Won't happen again.

yup...i'm sorry too believe me!!! What they played was great...but that's no excuse for only a 60 minute set when the crowd is showing their appreciation. Two songs does not constitute an encore if the entire set is so short. I'm happy that you had such a great experience...but from what I heard outside I was by far not the only one who felt slighted.

What was the encore? Did they do two encores like they did on Monday? (Smart Patrol Mr. DNA/Gates of Steel followed by Secret Agent Man)

Nope, just one - a very tight Be Stiff and a Beautiful World that was remarkable even by their standards (Booji told his Michael Jackson story - egads). Sure wish the show had been longer, but I've seen them twice before and this was by far Devo at their best.
