The Community Media Workshop at Columbia College Chicago, is a nonprofit whose mission is to help other nonprofits get media attention for the good work happening in their communities
We:
• hold workshops throughout the year to train nonprofit communicators on how to effectively reach the media, (via pitching/cold calls, or how to be a better spokersperson)
• publish an annual media guide (a yellow pages of media contacts),of all of the media outlets (including journalists & reporters full contact info) in the Chicagoland area and beyond
• have an annual conference in June - Making Media Connections - which brings hundreds of nonprofit people in the same room with reporters and journalists. This year, it's on for June 9 & 10!
• the Studs Terkel Media Awards Benefit each year honors journalists and reporters who covers stories in their communities. This year it was on March 11th!'
• Have a blog! It's called the NP Communicator which is home to our Newstips. (Newstips was created for journalists looking for stories about people or groups who are making an impact in their communities). Check it out here: http://communitymediaworkshop.org/
