I love that MOO Milk Co. is mentioned in this article. I hope more companies like ours can be created with the goal of getting a fresh, local product more directly to consumers while returning 90% of the company profits to the farmers. More info on MOO Milk Co. is at www.maineorganicmilk.com.

The idea of farmer cooperatives being paid a fair price so they can survive has been used by Equal Exchange (organic coffee, chocolate and tea) and other fair trade models. It's interesting that now we are using this model in the USA to protect our small scale subsistence producers. The concept of "profit over people" does not protect the consumers who think they are "saving" not the farmers who cannot compete against giant agro-business.
Kudos to Moomilk.

My impression is that Monsanto will go to thier clients' neighbors, who aren't using GMO seeds, and determine that GMO seeds did drift onto their land. Because the neighbor farmer has *some* GMO among his seeds, Monsanto extends their ownership to the neighbor's seeds and forbids them to save them. That's downright unfair!
