Cygnet Theatre Company

I saw the first preview of History Boys and it was great, particularly the performances by Tom Stephenson and Tom Zohar. However, I think it could be tightened up a bit and perhaps some scenes or parts of scenes cut--3 hours is a long play. There were some moments that dragged, such as Irwin's post-accident "interviews" and the one-by-one interviews by staff members with the headmaster. I'm sure Sean is well aware of all of this and H.B. will evolve into a perfectly paced performance. The energy is definitely there already and the scene changes are terrific!

We went to see it last night and really enjoyed it. I saw the movie a while back and remember thinking that it really would be better as a play and it was. The energy level was high, the boys did a great job staying in their characters and the accents seemed natural and not totally fake. But be warned that it's definitely not PG. I think this surprised a few in the audience last night.
