6:30 pm - Reception
7:30 pm – Lecture by Professor DePoy
Astronomers have found two planets t...hat resemble small versions of Jupiter and Saturn in a distant solar system. The discovery suggests that solar systems like our own may not be rare in the Universe.
Join Dr. DePoy as he describes the planets and planetary systems that are known to exist around other stars. He will also explain the several techniques that are used to find and measure these planets. The known systems will be compared to the Solar System and Professor DePoy will discuss the differences and similarities and what they tell us about the formation of planets in general.
The lecture and reception are free and open to the public.
