That is so cute! My grandma made those for us as kids, but not with those cool shapes, hers were just big blobs, but they were so much fun! Thanks for the idea!

Wow! What a great idea! Also--forgot how great your blog is. I had a lot of fun catching up. PS--do you know of a good source for patterned vellum like that in the project?

Check out a local paper store or Michael's crafts. They've got lots of scrapbook paper options that include vellum and clear acetate sheets too. Have fun with the projects; the options are endless!

I'm with Erica and Christy--good paint & brushes and meticulous prep work. I have the best results with Sherwin Williams Duration paint. It costs a little more, but covers great and wears like iron. Just painted my front door bright orange--looks great! When I painted certain rooms--for instance a hall with a laundry chute--I changed out the knob on the laundry chute door. I found great knobs in the sale bin at Anthropologie. Makes a big impact for mere $.

I love Sherwin-Williams' paint card samples. You can take the punched out part of the cards and make it into art. Glue the pieces onto card stock. You can use any colors. Frame and hang up onto your bathroom wall or anywhere in your house you'd like.

Gatika TrulyBlessed Brown

Gatika TrulyBlessed Brown I recently moved into a really cute house that was built in the 1920's! There are no closets in the bedrooms (which are about 10X10 by the way). What should I do? I was thinking of having closets built into the rooms but I'm not sure because that could take up some valuable room space.

We love the idea of flanking your bed with two curtained-off closets. It looks chic, affordable, and is easy to do. Here's an example from our site.

Megan Kelley I just moved into a private dorm room which means I have time for all nighters, chances for mini social events, and a place to relax. I can't damage the walls but the room is all white! It is like a major downer..is there any ideas to help create an enjoyable place to live for the rest of the school year?

Liquid Starch and fabric. You might need to search for better directions, but basically you find a fabric you like, dip it in spray starch, then spread it on the walls. Stays up very well, then when it is time to move out, use a spray bottle and spritz it with water, pull it down and toss in the washer to use again. Really looks great.

Cindy Tasset White

Cindy Tasset White Does anyone have any ideas on decorating a large wall? I'm in military housing, so it has to be removable, and no painting on the wall allowed. I'm leaning towards something organic or retro. Thanks!

Thanks, Jennifer! I have tried the liquid starch before - for a wainscotting. I've never tried an entire wall (like wall paper). I'd love to use Merrimiko fabric (too expensive) or IKEA fabric (too far). Great idea!

i am so excited about this its NOT even funny! i have never seen the fabric paint like this before....is it usually near the old school 'puff paint' for fabrics?

Scarlett, these paints are usually at stores that sell "fine art" supplies. In my town, Utrecht sells them. These paints dry soft, unlike the puff paints. Jacquard (the paint used in the tutorial) has a really interesting site with lots of projects--can't remember if it also suggests retail outlets.
