One's thing's for sure; the short-term measure's taken today, are just creating the long-term problems of tomorrow.I think that includes everybody. Don't go for 'Harper- Bashing', call him, but don't 'bash' him, every Prime Minister has to answer to the money that backs them, and to get what you want you have to adopt the system that you catch 'more flies with honey than you do with vinnegar'.Actually you catch the most with 'sh!t' but, you know what mean.

To Amanda I like you analogy on the funding aspect of politics or follow the money. But what if individuals are sabotaging our efforts to address massive environmental impact. Expansion of the oil sands was approved with out an environmental assessment of their impact on the climate. There has to be a line where political and corporate leaders ... Read Moreface criminal prosecution for failing to act with due diligence, supressing scientific research and falsifying scientific research. Or using an economic accounting system that hides the gross domestic damage (GDD) that it inflicts on society and the environment. It boils down of Government Accounting Fraud (GAF) on a global scale. As well honey does not work on political and corporate criminals. Unless what works for them is cold hard cash or time in prisonUltimately if destabilising our planet’s climate is not a global environmental crime against humanity, what do our political and corporate leaders think it is?

Voicing concerns is NOT enough. Know your opponent, use strategies and tactics that they can associate with, use their weakness and strength (and greed) to make them do what needs to be done.

With Politicians, you have to make them see all the advantage to take a position. IF you only say that it is important and bla bla bla; they won't care at ... Read Moreall and pretend to listen; but if you make them understand that becoming the leader in clean energy, in eco research/development and in green technologies;that PROFITS can be made by exporting that knowledge and new technologies, helping the ECONOMY and thus garnishing their wallet: then at that point, they will listen and even run towards it; and you achieve the true goal: saving the environment and even going further.

Many of the plastic things we throw away end up in the oceans, where birds and other animals mistake the pieces for food. A photographer shows the dramatic result.

Science Matters | October 30, 2009 By David Suzuki with Faisal Moola The buzz around the December UN climate summit in Copenhagen is increasing. Some of you may be wondering what it’s all about. Why is this one meeting so important? And does it really matter if it succeeds or fails? ...

Unfortunately, most of these decisions are out of the people's hands and in the hands of governments, most of whom do not represent their people. But I challenge each of you to try to eat a Hundred Mile Diet for one month. No food can be purchased that came from anywhere outside the 100 mile radius of your home. (No Triscuits (made in China)) You'... Read Morell be surprised how little info there is about where your food came from. Now, if successful or just for the challenge, try a plastic free diet for one week. (No Triscuits, they come in a plastic bag in that box)
GOOD LUCK. Change our ways and demand our suppliers to change and maybe there is hope

I totally agree with you Eliza, and change needs to come from the bottom up, so to speak. I like to think I'm a pretty conscientious consumer, but being more aware is never a bad thing. Perhaps, it's time to try this Hundred Mile diet.

It's sad to think that many municipalities have by laws preventing residents from letting their lawns and gardens grow wild. We have a lot homes situated on land that was once woodland, wetland or peatland.
We all need to let our garden (the earth) grow.
