Senator David Vitter

Senator David Vitter Today is day 100 of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Obviously, there’s a lot of work left to protect our marshes and clean up the spill and I’ll continue pressuring the Obama Administration for a better, more efficient response. During this disaster, I’ve been proud to again witness Louisiana’s resilience. Let’s s...tay focused on recovery, but I do believe we’ll get through this stronger than before.

Senator David Vitter Just got news that a federal judge blocked key provisions of Arizona’s new illegal immigration law. I recently introduced legislation to stop Obama’s efforts to sue AZ over their new immigration law, but Harry Reid blocked our legislation. I strongly support the new AZ immigration law. My opponent, Melancon, voted to p...revent Louisiana law enforcement from arresting or detaining illegals, like the AZ law.

Senator David Vitter We had a committee hearing yesterday on the negative impacts of Obama’s job-killing moratorium. Several Louisianians testified how the moratorium will not only devastate our economy in the future, but it’s already costing Louisiana jobs. I asked President Obama to have someone from his administration attend the hearing, but of course nobody showed up.

Senator David Vitter We’re making progress on efforts to establish a VA community-based outpatient clinic in Lake Charles. The effort is moving forward and I’ll continue to work with the Department of Veterans Affairs to efficiently complete the process. It’s important that we provide veteran’s everywhere access to the full range of health care services they deserve.

Senator David Vitter Recently Charlie Melancon supported legislation that stole $400 million from the Road Home program in order to pay for other pork barrel spending programs. That critical money is needed for homeowners in Louisiana especially the victims of toxic Chinese Drywall. I fought to help get send the Senate bill, which kept the... Road Home money intact, back to the House for another vote. The House will be voting on our version soon. How many people think Melancon will vote with Pelosi again?

Senator David Vitter No one from the White House showed up to the Small Business Committee hearing today on the devastating effects of the moratorium. I think that shows the Obama Administration is tone deaf to Louisianians. Last week I sent Obama a letter urging him to have one of his top advisors attend and hear first-hand the actual ‘on...-the-ground’ effects that his moratorium is having on local economies and Louisiana families.

Senator David Vitter We’re finding out that taxpayer funded bailout money, that Charlie Melancon supported, was sent to overseas entities. According to USA Today, "Goldman Sachs sent $4.3 billion in federal tax money to 32 entities including many overseas banks, hedge funds and pensions." Stay tuned for more to come on this…

Senator David Vitter Really enjoyable time at the Island Aid Concert 2010 in Grand Isle this afternoon. The food and music were fantastic and of course this concert is for a really great cause. Special thanks to Jefferson Parish Councilman Chris Roberts and the thousands of people who showed up to support Grand Isle.

Senator David Vitter The House, with Melancon’s support, recently removed $400 Million in vital funds from the Road Home program. I was very pleased to help save that $400 Million. The Road Home program is especially important to assist victims of toxic Chinese Drywall and contractor fraud. If Melancon and Pelosi were successful in rescind...ing this money, as many as 19,000 homeowners across the state and roughly 6,600 in SE Louisiana would end up with un-restored and blighted property.

Senator David Vitter Good news! Last night I helped save $400 Million in Road Home funds. The House, with Melancons support, removed $400 Million in vital recovery funds from the Road Home program, while simultaneously adding $23 BILLION in debt. I was able to remove the $400 Million Road Home cut Melancon voted for AND Melancon and Pelosi’s $23 Billion in extra spending.

Senator David Vitter Our efforts to fight cap and tax are paying off as Harry Reid announced that the Senate will be shelving this legislation that could seriously ruin an already struggling economy. Although I am pleased that cap and tax is not an immediate threat, I will not let down my guard and will continue to suppress this attack on our economy and pocketbooks.

Senator David Vitter Next Tuesday we’re having a U.S. Senate Small Business Committee hearing on the economic impacts of the ongoing federal drilling moratorium. I’ve sent a letter to President Obama urging him to send members of his administration. Our hearing would be an excellent opportunity for his senior advisors to hear first-hand th...e actual ‘on-the-ground’ effects that his moratorium is having on local economies and Louisiana families.
