Located in Woodside amidst the rustic grandeur of ancient redwood forests and the golden hills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, the Djerassi Resident Artists Program will host its fourth annual fall fundraiser — ARTFUL HARVEST — on Sunday, October 18, from 3pm to 7:30pm at the Program’s SMIP Ranch. Guests are invited to s...aunter amidst the rolling hills, ancient redwoods and California oaks surrounding the rustic Artists’ Barn with spectacular views of the brilliant blue Pacific. Chefs Mark Sullivan and Dmitry Elperin of Spruce and The Village Pub will prepare an elegant five-course Harvest Supper featuring just-picked organic greens from SMIP Ranch Produce. Delicious hors d’oeuvres and wine kick-off the afternoon for silent auction previews at 3pm, the savory supper will be served promptly at 4pm, followed by a live performance by Joe Goode Performace Group, inspired verse from distinguished guest, poet Jane Hirshfield and a 30th Anniversary celebratory dessert and sunset champagne toast!
Traveling Light: Joe Goode Performance Group
Following its widely acclaimed world premiere at the Old Mint, Djerassi Program alumnus Joe Goode will transform a segment of his performance/installation, Traveling Light, specifically for the Djerassi landscape and ARTFUL HARVEST patrons in the Artists’ Barn. “In Traveling Light, Goode explores non–traditional venues for dance/theater by revealing external and internal landscapes that resonate with history, place, ideas and time.” A performance not to be missed!
Poet Jane Hirshfield
Her poetry has been described as “radiant and passionate,” “insightful and eloquent.” Three-time Djerassi alumna Jane Hirshfield, will read from her distinguished, prize-winning work. “Jane Hirshfield’s poetry speaks to the central issues of human existence—desire and loss, impermanence and beauty, the many dimensions of our connection to others and to the creatures and objects with which we share our lives.” Signed first editions of Jane’s books will be in the silent auction!
The silent auction, designed to tempt adventurous collectors and patrons of the arts, will include an exceptional array of works by Djerassi Program alumni artists and notable friends, as well as art packages from Bay Area arts organizations and businesses. Commentary about auction artworks will be provided by noted Bay Area art writer and curator Patricia Maloney from 3:00 to 4:00 pm, with special remarks during Supper. Check our website: www.djerassi.org, for an auction preview
Proceeds from ARTFUL HARVEST support the Djerassi Resident Artists Program, whose mission is to support and enhance the creativity of artists by providing uninterrupted time for work, reflection and collegial interaction in a setting of great natural beauty, and to preserve the land upon which the Program is situated.

Djerassi Resident Artists Program Ilse Leenders & Maurits Giesen have been working together since they completed their studies at the Royal Art Academy in the Hague, the Netherlands in 2001. They maintain a perfect balance between seriousness and humor. As both directors and performers, they have total control over the final image. Working in locations... that are often nondescript, they use wry humor to make these places seem both odd and familiar. In fact, every photograph they have produced since then is of themselves in disguise.
