Domus staffers will soon warm up for another week of four-on-four co-ed employee basketball. Let's hear it for team-building, cross-program, morale-boosting team sports! The trash talking begins promptly at 6pm.
Domus is hosting a gala kickoff party tonight, 7pm, at Woodway Country Club in Darien. Stop by if you like planning parties! We need your creativity and connections to make sure we can fund critical supports like our family advocates and literacy specialists.
Domus is honored to be an IRS VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) site this spring. Volunteers who’ve been trained and certified by IRS specialists will provide free assistance to low- to moderate-income people who cannot prepare their own tax returns. Our volunteers are downstairs training right now...thanks, volunteers!

Beat t...he pants off those know-it-alls down the hall while raising money for
literacy efforts so disadvantaged kids can learn to read. Form a work or neighborhood team, or pull together your smarty-pants friends--but make sure they’re good spellers since the 3 of you spell each word as a team. Bring your A-game and a creative costume, or at least matching t-shirts or neckties, for Pete’s sake...you’re gonna be on TV. And it’s all for a good cause.

Domus hosted 500+ people for Saturday's MLK education and career expo after a great discussion on the education gap. VIPs Senators Andrew McDonald and Scott Frantz, State Reps Carlo Leone and Patricia Miller, Mayor Mike Pavia, and Stamford Board of Education members Jackie Heftman and Julie Wade joined us. Thanks! Domus is setting up for today's MLK education and career expo after a great town hall meeting on our state's achievement gap, the country's largest.

STAMFORD -- As three sixth-graders at Trailblazers Academy read the story of a clever but not particularly honest dog, a black Labrador retriever named Eli curled on the coach between them, clearly content to be petted.

Domus is working with The Good Men Project to facilitate conversations with the young men in our programs about what it means to be a good man these days. Their book profiles men with various backgrounds and experiences, including Pulitzer winners, ex-cons, and Pro Football Hall of Famers. When you buy the book/DVD package (link below), Domus gets half the profits.

The Good Men Project is a four-pronged effort to build and sustain a national discussion about being good fathers, sons, husbands, and workers. The project comprises a book, a film, a charity, and a network of on-line forums.

Domus had a good week with our therapy dogs, Eli the Lab and Logan the English Mastiff. Students read aloud with Eli and Logan to gain confidence--plus petting our pooches reduces stress.
