John Sholly

John Sholly I have 6 Eaarth Boxes and have decided to build a sunroom to see if I can grow year 'round. Got advice?

Dear John,

Your plants will need two types of light for optimal growth and flowering. Red for blooms and blue for growth. To mimic that of natural sunlight when/if your sunroom goes "gloomy", to replicate, use "grow lights" (or fluorescent bulbs). A small space heater will aide as well if the area becomes cool, considering artificial lights ... See Moreproduce little heat. Tropicals will need 70°-80° F daytime and hardier plants will need a 65°-75° F range and about 5°-10° cooler at night. Investing in a thermometer to monitor the temperature might be a good idea, too. Also remember air circulation is important to keep plants free of disease.

Joyce Warren

Joyce Warren I need help. I have four Earth Box's. Had one last year and loved it so bought four more kits. Problem is: HOW DO I HOOK UP THE NET? We had a tangled up mess so would like advice. I have green beans that should climb the net but just don't have any instructions. Also want to grow cucumbers in my box. Anyone that ca...n give me help with the kind of cucumbers to grow and again the net problem. Already growing tomatoes, peppers and cauliflower in them as well as the beans.

When it comes to putting on the net, once unraveled (doesn't have to be completely unraveled), pull as tightly as possible to one side and tie around the aluminum pole. Do likewise on the opposite side while working your way down. Having two people simultaneously pull and tie at each side works very well also.

With the beans, you will have to ... See Moreguide them through the netting as they grow. As far as the cucumbers are concerned, it would be best advised to contact your county's cooperative extension. They can give you specifics when it'd be best to plant, which plant varieties grow best in your area, etc.

Kathy Just picked 81 tomatoes (from 2 plants) in anticipation of the hard freeze. (~~Please be right Mr. Weatherman, lest they died in vain...~~) In the last ten days I've picked 71 tomatoes off of just one plant. Thank you, sweet Celebrity, for all the yummy salsas and sauces you were a part of. This was my first time to ev...er grow ANYTHING! Earthbox made it easy and enjoyable. I hope Santa loads his sleigh with Earthboxes.

I have posted my roasted green tomato salsa on the forum. I tweaked it to use up these green tomatoes (not enough sunlight to ripen). However, the technique works well with tomatillos and red tomatoes, too.
