Edelweiss Lodge and Resort

it is a beautiful place because my husband and I used to work there and it has the cleanest air and the greenist grasses.

@Marlena... We went there for the 1st time in early November. It was really nice, but I would say stay in the resort and not the cabins, because you will get more for your money, unless you are going with a bunch of people who can split the cost with you.

A trip up the Zugspitze cost us $110 for two people but is definitely worth the money even if you don't ski. (buy your tickets at the hotel gift shop, it's cheaper there than in town!). But if it's a cloudy day, don't bother to go since you won't be able to see anything except clouds and fog. We got lucky, it was absolutely amazing up there!

The loop around Oberammergau/Ettal/Wieskirche/Neuschwanstein is really pretty if you have a car. We did a daytrip kind of thing, but I don't know how those roads are in the middle of winter. The hotel offers lots of tours and ski pacages too, and I think they have special R&R room rates too. Their operators were really helpful, I would get in touch with them. I have "Rick Steve's Guide to Germany" which has been a pretty good guidebook for us so far too, and lists a lot of stuff to do in that area. Looks like they replace that sketchy two-seater lift that was there before. That lift was more scary than the mountain itself. This will be my third season there.

Do you have special activities going on for Christmas? Do parents have to be present while children are skiing? We have a child in each age group. I don't know if I am going to be up for skiing. Will my kids still be able to? And how are the roads coming from Frankfurt over Christmas day?

we are heading there on Friday for our first visit. Been in Germany only 3 months and hear this is the place to go. Can't wait to see it!

We love the rustic cabins. Take some coffee cups and utensils. Great little coffee shop over by the bank though for that morning joe. You can cut through by the bath house.

Hey Mary - our ski school is not open yet. You can get equipment rental on the Zugspitze and buy your lift passes at Alpine Adventures. We just got new snow last night and the mountains are gleaming white. Ski ya later.

This is my favorite place on earth!!! The picture above looks like it was taken at "Cake by the Lake," I have taken many pictures from this angle. Have never been in the winter time tho. Guess I will just have to do that!

You must go during the Christmas Marts! Garmisch is beautiful in the winter and still so much to do.

Was at Edelweiss 2 yrs ago and took their day trip to Oktoberfest. We loved it!

Heck, I'll skip Oktoberfest and just say at Edelweiss!

I LOVED the winter! Then went again in Spring and walked to the Gorge - WOW! The beauty is truly awesome :)

When stationed in England we won a free trip here. It was wonderful! Try the massuiers, they are really great!!!
