Christel Nelson Thanksgiving: I thank my horses every day for being there for me, listening to my
hopes and fears since I was old enough to have hopes and fears. They
pretty much raised me and taught me to be a better person, and now I
care for them in their golden years.

Penelope Penny Lode Thanksgiving: If there was one thing I could thank my horse for, it would be for being my therapist after I lost my son. I don't know how I would have made it through those very dark times if I did not have my horse to hang out with and give me some peace; even if for just a couple of hours. Having him to care for k...ept me busy and got me out of the house, when I could have very easily shut down. Thank you X!

Equestrian Collections Something we can do for our horses this Thanksgiving:
An online petition has been set up against the FEI's decision to allow horses to compete on bute and five other controversial substances. The website www.no-fei.com was only set up this morning and already has 1700 signatures.

Yes, bute is good for horses with certain problems...it's an anti-inflammatory and a pain killer but by no means should you be riding them or showing them while they are on this medication.

It can even be dangerous and detrimental to the horse, because he/she can not feel the pain, and cause even more injury to themselves and their riders. I believe that if this is allowed, than we will see more accidents at shows and more horses without homes, because they will need to retire earlier from the lasting detrimental effects of working a horse on an injury.

Thanksgiving- I thank my ponies Ginger and Joey and Scooter not a pony but a quarter horse we once owned. Ginger for being there through grandpas death, Joey for always knowing the right thing to do weather I'm happy, sad, or have no idea what to do with you while we ride. Also for taking off down the field when my mind is racing you always know ... See Morewhat to do when I don't.
Scooter you were shy and were very aware of who was riding you. Bucked a few off and some got back on just to make you more scared. I'm glad you came around to trust me and we accomplished a lot within the short time I had with you. Even when my trainer wouldn't work with you and said you were to dangerous, we showed her huh? You were sold to a rider who was bucked off a year before and didn't look that gracious riding you her first time but you just kept doing what she asked and didn't even flinch! I'm sure your still doing wonderful I wish I could visit you and possibly when I get my barn have you and Joey back together again I miss watching you 2 play. Also because of you Joey knows how to defend himself witch came in handy when he was down here. Thank you Ginger, Joey and Scooter!!

I would like to thank my horse, Stryder, for teaching me true forgiveness. About two years ago he developed Navicular Syndrome, caused by improper trimming. He became very aggressive because of the pain, we thought it was just behavioral problems, and so we tried to fix the problem as such. We worked him harder the more he acted ... See Moreout, which in turn caused him more pain. It was not for another year, when I had a round pen and noticed his shortened stride. He went a year without being diagnosed. Once diagnosed I found a farrier who knew about the problem. He completely reset Stryder's hooves, raising his heels and lowering his toes to level out the navicular bone. (Thank you Carl!!!!) Once I discovered that he was acting out in pain and not just misbehaving, I cried for days. I doubted that we could ever ride again without such problems, or have the connection we once had, I feared that his trust in me was forever gone. After the first shoeing, his disposition improved, but I still doubted that he would ever be able to forgive me, I know if our roles were reversed, I would most likely have not. It took about three shoeings to correct his hooves, and in that same amount of time, my relationship with my horse was repaired as well. Stryder has taught me the true meaning of forgiveness. He does not hold any sort of grudge over me for the year of pain and torment my ignorance had put him through. I can once again grab my halter and reins, mount him bareback and ride through the pasture with ease and enjoyment. After seeing his trust in me regained and his forgiveness towards me, I could not help but to think about the many minor things that I have held over the people in my life, and thought to myself that, “If he can completely forgive me for the pain I put him through for a year; than I can forgive my parents for missing my basketball game and my brothers for making fun of my glasses.
