When I was in college I had a classic baby blue 65 VW bug so I could save gas driving to class from Marshall to LSU-S. I was driving down I-20 when the engine started making funny sounds... I looked in the rearview mirror only to see flames licking up the back of my windshield... I panicked swerving from lane to lane trying to fan the flames out ... See Morebut the got bigger...I had to pull off onto the shoulder right about the time the flames were above the top of the car... I ran screaming like a little girl up the hill thinking it was going to blow up..but as I did I realized i had 300$ worth of textbooks in the back...as well as a 15 page paper I was about to go turn in.. I ran down the hill trying to get into the back seat when a truck driver saw me and pulled over with his fire extinguisher to help me battle the flames....the books and homework survived..the VW Bug died right there where it sat... I thanked the truck driver for saving my homework!!! ;)

I know I'm not eligible but what the heck. Set the scene, August 2006 scorching hot outside. It was the day to trade in the Husbands old little 1996 Mazda pickup for a brand new 2006 Scion xB! His pickup was in horrible shape and I was scared I would have to pay the dealership to take it. Hubby was at work and I was going to meet him at the ... See Moredealership with his pickup. It was a standard with no power steering or air-conditioning and just backing out of the driveway was almost impossible for me. I pulled out of the driveway and thought, “Ok, I can do this.” As I was shifting from first to second gear my optimism went out the door – the stick shift that goes into the floor of the pickup broke clean off!!! I was holding the entire thing in my hand, eyes huge and mouth hanging open. Queue Major Freak Out! It was like something out of a movie. Through the hole in the floorboard of the pickup I could see the street. All of this heat was radiating up through the hole. There was a tiny piece of the stick still poking up through the hole and I finally figured that I could kind of shift the pickup with that. I held up traffic, I got honked at, I was dripping in sweat and covered in black grease but through pure will I got that pickup to the dealership. Thankfully they did take the pickup and we were able to go home in our brand new, automatic, power steered and air-conditioned car.

I had, keyword had, a 1996 Nissan Maxima up until last summer. Bought it in 1999 with 30k miles on it. I was on a quest to break 300k miles. She started leaking every fluid you can imagine about 2 years ago. Our driveway looks like a murder scene. I think I only changed the oil about 4 times in 5 years.. Last summer she started to miss a little bit... See More and was leaking more oil than usual and now water.. On my way home on the Westpark tollway I heard a clatter and then lost power.. I slowly rolled to the shoulder and she was done.

You can read more of her obituary here: http://www.facebook.com/scottwayres?v=photos#!/photo.php?pid=30264184&id=1018974455&fbid=1102702080627

after hurricane rita in beaumont, i needed an oil change. there was not much of the population back in town yet. the oil change place had a bunch of new hires, not well trained yet and NO experience. took the car in for the change. 2 days later, i was driving down the highway doin about 60, when i felt the whole engine explode..instant smoke...... See Morebangs and clangs and shakin and grinding like you wouldn't believe. went another couple miles, drove into the driveway at home, opened the hood, and oil, oily smoke and steam swooshed me in the face. the oil was a dead giveaway that something had gone terribly wrong at the oil change place. seems the newby had removed the old filter, but hadn't thought to remove the old gasket. new filters come with their own new gastket attached, so there were 2 gaskets and not enough threads for the filter to completely attach. it had blown off, all of the oil dumped on the road, the head cracked, rods were thrown. my engine was blown.
the oilc change place was great, tho, so to speak...they paid for a new engine (which had fewer miles) even tho we wanted another vehicle with all it's original parts. the computer in my vehicle doesn't read the computer parts in the new engine very well, but it runs. still...haha.
